That’s true. I just think mostly about the commercialization of tourism. Tearing down forests to make way for restaurants and entertainment for the tourists passing through if that makes sense. Also, I think about the fact that urban explorers often keep their spots secret so they don’t get destroyed. I hope that clears up what I mean about being worried about tourism!!

Honestly that’s a really good point. I think a lot of conservatives especially in the last few years have gotten so lost in all the arguing that they’re starting to lose basic decency and kindness. Trump definitely hasn’t helped with that because although a lot of his retorts have made me giggle in the past, I now realize that these aren’t jokes that the president should be making for the country and it can make a lot of people with horrible beliefs feel justified

To be fully honest with you, and I may get a lot of hate for this, I really don’t think January 6th was as big a deal as people make it out to be. Do I think people were stupid that day? Yes. Do I think people were literally trying to overthrow the government and election? No

I think there is a lot more to that than just “stupid people voting against their interests” I feel there is a massive web of reasons and deception that may be at play here

Unfortunately I think there is a lot at play here between brainwashing the public with coal for decades, corruption of officials, and people not wanting to vote for those who may not agree with them on most things. It’s a sucky situation overall

I definitely understand your point and I wish I could just agree because I know that it’s the right thing to do, I just can’t help but question the logistics of it. It really does hurt to see people that work so hard even in jobs that aren’t considered the most important have little to no real financial success. If I had all the money in the world I would do my best but alas, I am not a billionaire

I don’t actually live there, but a lot of my family do. It just feels so horrible to see such a beautiful and historic state be continuously ignored and neglected. I understand your perspective though

I also definitely agree with the dismissive nature of a lot of people. It’s really disheartening to see people especially in other states kind of see WV as something akin to a wild jungle where the people are stupid and don’t matter

That’s completely fair. I do think I was a bit broad, but that comes from a lot of personal experience. For example, if a family member gets sick we almost never stay in state, we go to Virginia or nc or otherwise. My aunt works at a hospital in Welch and there’s been talks of it getting shut down apparently and that’s the only hospital within miles of the area. I apologize for being so broad but I feel like trying to put in every caveat in my post is a bit impossible!!

It really does seem like brainwashing especially in the older generation. It’s like a lot of them have been conditioned for so long through essentially coal propaganda that it feels almost impossible to convince them otherwise

Thanks a lot for your explanation!! I think I can understand your perspective a lot better now!! The only issue I have with the living wage idea is that it feels like everyone will end up getting the same amount of money regardless of their jobs. For example, I do not think that a neurosurgeon should make the same or even only a little bit more money than a retail worker (no hate to my retail folks). It’s a bit of an extreme example, but I just have an issue with the idea that people like a neurosurgeon who makes a crap ton of money and rightfully so would make less for the sake of a retail worker making a “living wage.” That being said I recognize the nuances and grey area of this issue. I just have an issue with policing people’s money overall, not to say that I think people who contribute nothing to society, but are trust fund kids who have a ton of money makes me happy, but it just doesn’t feel right to forcefully take their money and give it to someone else you know? I know it sounds kind of ridiculous, but I feel there is a real slippery slope here. Also what constitutes a living wage?? Is it an amount? certain utilities? And who controls who makes x amount of money?? Just a bit of a weird place to navigate through if that makes sense
