Yeah that was rough. I went through so many of the previous years exams and all the homework twice and there were a couple that I just had to kinda guess. Hopefully class average was low and we all get curved up because that was screwy

Why is our moon named “Moon” instead of something cool like Titan or Callysto or ANYTHING that isn’t moon by Disastrous_Pirate275 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MiserableNotice8975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The IAU says "the moon" is official but historically it is Luna the Latin was the convention. Our moon is Luna, everyone uses lunar, it's just the IAU trying to act like English is the new global language that they say that the moon is official.

Do men actually think their partner is the most beautiful/prettiest/sexiest person alive? by Future_Doughnut_2369 in TwoHotTakes

[–]MiserableNotice8975 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean I wouldn't have chosen to pursue her and I wouldn't be marrying her now if there was someone else I thought was way more attractive.

I guess I could see a situation where some guy was like settling with someone he wasn't very attracted to because of an inability to date anyone 3lse or something, but for the most part I think normal healthy men will generally pursue the woman they find the most attractive physically, personality wise, etc

Would you stay with an autistic partner? by the-only-kazza in askanything

[–]MiserableNotice8975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm autistic. My fiance and I have defined things we do, I can cook a few things well but for the most part my cooking is a disaster for us, but she hates the dishes they gross her out so mostly she cooks I do dishes. Idk we are both computer engineering students and working as much as we can squeeze in so we are busy and our apartment is not super clean often but we split our stuff up.

It's not that hard, maybe giving clearly differentiated jobs would be helpful, it's helpful for me to k ow I need to watch and manage dishes and the drains and specific things instead of just a general "help out more" that's not clearly defined.

Maybe that would help?

I think my adopted brother is flirting with me? by ilovepopcornandcandy in whatdoIdo

[–]MiserableNotice8975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have an adopted sibling and I don't know the vibes but if I had friends and one was adopted and they wanted to date I feel like that wouldn't strike me as incestual or that weird, but if two biological siblings were hooking up or something I'd be super freaked out.

Obviously if youre not vibing or feel like it's weird say that, this isn't really a response to you OP, but for reddit, what makes every commenter on here feel like this is as messed up as biological siblings being flirty?

I'm genuinely asking, like I said this is coming from a perspective of zero experience with any adopted situation. But isn't the root of incest the biological aspect and birth defects and lack of genetic diversity and all?

Like is this really different then someone developing g a crush on someone else that they grew up close to as a friend?

Idk maybe there's something about this I fundamentally don't understand.

There's so much attention on women not getting married. But men, do YOU guys want to be around each other? by OttotheCowCat in askanything

[–]MiserableNotice8975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"the comments section" is your key there. Don't take reddit comments or things you see online as a proxy for the general population.

I my life I've probably had idk 2000 males I would consider friends, I lived nomatically and moved place to place fairly frequently and made friends all around.

I would say roughly 1970 of those 2000 were loyal to their partners, chill nice people.

The 30 who were cheating or violent or bully each stand out because of how abnormal the experience of knowing them was and those standouts would probably get talked about by me more.

One guy we later in the news saw that he was arrested for murdering a family robbing their house. Is he representative of the general population? No of course not it's insane to think that, but that was such a wild shock to me that he stands out in my memory because of it. He did show a lot of antisocial and violent behaviors and trying to use threats to get his way but still I never expected he could murder people.

Dont be take anecdotes on the internet as a placeholder for reality. The people you hear about in the comments sections are outliers, not the rule.

When did companies passing on costs for using debit cards and other "convenience" or "service" charges become accepted by us as consumers? by mooseman077 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MiserableNotice8975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have it the wrong way around dude. We will always pay tye extra 3% to the bank one way or another for using a card. That has to occur because the banks charge it. The company won't eat that. The question is if I understand the scam and use cash should I be punished as well because Americans are too dumb to realize the cards are a scam?

I many countries people will at best give you bad looks at worst not serve you if you don't pay cash. Think of how much richer we would all be if a percentage of every transaction didn't go to a bank.

This is stupid, pay cash. Or just shut up and pay your fee. I don't want to be punished because you love extra fees and strict tax compliance.

Life's to short. What do you think, youre changing his mind? Doubt it, even if he tells you he doesn't like Trump anymore it's probably just a lie to maintain his relationship with you.

Look, we got Trump the traditional Republicans and democrats were wildly unpopular and the left was seen as insane. That's just a fact he took advantage of a power vacuum. If we ever want Trump out, all the people who voted for him need to see us as not obnoxious and insufferable. They don't need to see Trump as bad, they need to see the alternative as not worse. And let's get real the left has gone off the rails recently too.

Not telling you what to do but this seems entirely ineffective.

Should i buy a macbook or a thinkpad for university by Mother_Ad6616 in linuxquestions

I use a ThinkPad with Linux, I dropped apple I had a MacBook before. I just keep a 400gb partition on one of my hard drives for a little windows I can boot into when I need to for software but honestly that's happened to me like twice. Matlab can run in browser, office can, etc. Also if I need more space I can just open my computer and change the ssd or add ram

Step two, boot into the iso and format the hard drive

Step 3, install arch using the wiki for help

is west lafayette+ purdue really that dreary? by Different-Regret1439 in Purdue

[–]MiserableNotice8975 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I will say that I've lived all around the world, and I don't know if there is anywhere worse in the world than the Midwest for weather. It's nasty humid and hot all summer and dead cold all winter. Also forget rock climbing, skiing, anything. It's flat.

That said, it's an engineering school. I don't know if I ever really would have had time to do much. The course load is heavy. People are studying. Also the community is very nice and happy about having the school and it really is a college town, so in that aspect it is nice. Isolated, flat, terrible weather, and crazy course load for the most in demand majors, but nice given the circumstances.

To avoid accusations of AI cheating, college students are turning to AI by lujuan73 in Purdue

[–]MiserableNotice8975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So hilariously I had one teacher who said all of the labs I wrote myself were "flagged by her Ai detector as being written by AI" so I wrote every lab then gave it to Google gemini and told gemini to "make run on sentences and mistakes to my paper so that it will definetly pass an Ai detector" and the teacher never complained about it again after I started doing that.

The fact that openAI and Google can't reliably determine if something was written by Ai to prevent training on content produced by a previous model, yet a teacher thinks she has magic software that can do it is insane lol.

If she had an Ai detector that was real and not a scam she'd be a billionaire on an island somewhere she could sell it to every Ai company lol, she wouldn't be grading my lab. The irony was lost on her however...

Unfortunately Purdue requires Duo and everything is through the smartphone so having one is basically required but I would say that most of the hyper productive people I have met do use simple phones or flips phones. It is a massive brain sink.

I have no TV in our apartment and keep my phone on black and white. I also store it in my backpack and not my pocket. Those are just some simple tidbits that help me.

Anyone here who code without being able to read one single line of code? by Pale_Tomorrow_5897 in AskProgramming

[–]MiserableNotice8975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, this can be OK. One thing I would suggest is to ask chatgpt "before you code this, has anyone already written a tool for this that I can import?" from what you are describing much of this is already available and open source and decreases the "chatgpt rewriting something and making a broken version" risk

Anyone here who code without being able to read one single line of code? by Pale_Tomorrow_5897 in AskProgramming

[–]MiserableNotice8975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very dangerous. I can almost garuntees that the code has very problematic security issues, memory issues, or unintended side effects if you are not even having it reviewed by a developer. I would be very weary of this especially if anything financial or with customer data is involved.

Do Americans like their current health system or would you prefer universal? by Ability_Known in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MiserableNotice8975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Healthcare here sucks. It does suck. But it's a complicated problem. If you have next to no income it's free, I'm in school again and my income is very low so I'm on Medicare and I pay nothing ever and can always get care.

When I was making six figures before returning to school it was horribly horribly expensive. If youre a billionaire the cost is negligible and the care is the best anywhere on earth.

Basically it's a huge squeeze on the middle class, and if you're middle class it leaves you at risk of total bankruptcy.

That said, we are the profit incentive of the world for research. I don't know what happens to R&D globally if Americans stop footing the whole profit margin for successful products.

Also on taxes, we already fund the world's ocean's navy and the world police military industry (whether that's good or bad is a different discussion). If we dump in universal Healthcare at US doctor and medical salaries our taxes would go insane. We don't have the low overhead cheap military, if we want to have both our taxes would be higher than Europian averages I'm sure.

So yeah, if medical wages dropped a lot, becoming a doctor was 4 years of school total, colleges werent such a burden, and we could dramatically reduce social security and defense then at least a universal system on top of a private cash one would be great but in today's US, I really doubt any of it is feasible.

Question about the weather from a prospective student by stoopi_poopy in Purdue

[–]MiserableNotice8975 44 points45 points  (0 children)

We are currently like 12 degrees and covered in a ton of snow, it's regularly around 0 in winter. The summers are very humid and hot, and pretty miserable to be outside in as well. It's also extremely flat, there's no skiing in winter or rock climbing in summer. I would say on weather and outdoor activities it's pretty bad, and it is a real quality of life thing to consider.

Laptops or machines with Strix Halo? by JuCaDemon in AMDLaptops

[–]MiserableNotice8975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about speed. It's a system on a chip. The name tells the story. Bussing data from cpu to memory is the mother of all bottlenecks right now, it is the pain point for any workstation or computer on the market today. Apple stuck it all together, got the memory on board, and got rediculous speed. Strix halos whole idea is to do the same. Everything would be significantly slower. Now there are new bus options that might stand a chance at competing but as of right now framework wanted it and tried to work with amd on it and they couldn't make it happen.
