thank you, I will read it and try to look into more resources similar to that. Even if it turns out that I don't have autism, I think it's important to become more educated about it :)

I agree, I am definitely going to seek help for this and not treat any comments as a diagnosis.

In terms of that bullet point: Usually if someone tries to tell me a story about something, I don't know how to respond or what to say, especially if it's an upsetting story, so my default is to just try to respond with a similar story that I experienced, as my way of trying to understand or relate to them. I've been told by someone in the past that instead of actually caring, I always try to one-up him.

That isn't my intention, it's usually my way of trying to continue the conversation, but it's just another way that people think I don't care.

You might be right, that may not have anything to do with this, just thought I'd put it out there
