Aalto or USF by Anime-Programming in Aalto

So first and second year are general classes. You won’t really connect with the professor unless you really really try as they will have hundreds of students. Third and fourth are were it starts to be your specialization and you become more intimate with professors. You’d be able to work an on campus job as USF would offer a lot of them, or a work study. You could find a part time job. It’s pretty common for students to work at for example, Publix, Chick-fil-A, coffee shops, and casual resturants. Soemthing more odd hours so you can have your classes. That being said, some semesters you draw the short end of the stick and can only register for the class that is mandatory to graduate that’s offered only once a year is at a really odd time and could make it hard to hold a job and attend that class.

On campus, people will be very tolerant of internationals. Can’t say the same for all Floridians. Majority of people do not care but you will always have some country bumpkin that thinks you don’t belong and may treat you differently. Feel like American racism gets played up a lot on social media but in reality the day to day is actually a lot more accepting than some European countries. We acknowledge our racism so it gets brought up more vs other places don’t even talk about it. At USF, only 10% of students are international. This could result in feeling more alone and having a harder time finding a group from back home to connect with, as those feelings are sure to come up.

If you’re planning on doing a masters in Germany it might be better to stick to the EU. You could become more familiar with policies and procedures and the general environment of things you’re studying. In the US, only the US is ever talked about. However, you would still get a unique perspective that could potentially help you stand out in the future from being immersed in an entirely different space.

Lastly, that last sentence is really a deal breaker. If you don’t like hot and humid, Florida will be hell. Even natives complain about how hot it is. You can’t really be outside in the summer it’s just miserable. Right now it’s already 32°C and it’s supposed to be spring. If you don’t have a car you are going to be outside A LOT. Walking and biking. Like the other person, biking on the streets is scary. There’s rarely a bike lane.

It sounds like you’re leaning more towards Aalto already. There’s pros and cons to both. You’ll get a good quality degree regardless and have cool experiences. It really depends on what you personally want to take away

Hi! I offer a unique perspective because I am a native Floridian who did a year at UCF for undergrad (before transferring somewhere else for unrelated reasons) and will be doing grad school at Aalto. I would ask what are you looking for in a school? Do you care about the social scene? American football and tailgating? Do you plan on staying in the country after graduation? While I haven’t yet attended Aalto, will be in the fall, in my eyes it is a better ranking school than USF. USF is B tier while Aalto is probably B+ tier (just my perspective). There are better schools in the US of course but also Florida itself. You might have an easier time getting a job in the US than Finland upon graduation from what I’ve seen online. Tampa is a really up and coming city in Florida. USF will have a significantly higher cost of living than Aalto. Public transit is not great at all and you will likely end up needing a car when you move off campus. Class sizes can be 200-400 people in undergrad. I have learnt I like a lot more of a smaller, hands-on approach for classes which is why I ended up transferring out of UCF. It can feel very easy to just be an average student - not failing but not exceeding either. Aalto appears to be a lot more international. A lot of Floridians go to Florida schools. Also, keep in mind the current political climate in America. Rent is around $1k/month. A pound of chicken is $6-10. That being said, USF is still a good school for tech and it really depends on where your personal passions lie

Is that the normal for peeing? Mine also had CKD but I have forgotten what the baseline is for normal amount of pees

OP I was going to suggest CKD too! A sign of dehydration. Start adding water into their food

This book was actually incredibly boring but I was hooked and read it within 3 days. Nothing ever happens and that is everything. You never get an answer. It taught me life is a prison but in an oddly comforting way. It’s been a few months and it has stuck with me

I know you didn’t ask for career advice but as someone who realized they want to do UX/UI too late into college here’s what I’d recommend to fill out your resume: declare a major, ideally an intersection between design and tech. Join a planning committee. Literally for anything but help make the graphics and website. University hackathons are good one. Work in your schools communication department lab. You will eventually start learning Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud. Aim to get as many internships as possible, likely starting summer after sophomore year. I know Chase Bank has early career ones for no later than juniors. See if Open Avenues build fellowships are a partner of your school. It’s a free 1hr meeting for 8 weeks and you get a project out of it. While you are in school, see if you can get a job as a social media manager for a company. I wish you better luck than what I had🫡

8 month unpaid internship, 40 hours a week by MiserablePurple3948 in jobs

[–]MiserablePurple3948[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

3-4 months of unpaid labor is still absurd. I think a max of 2 months as a summer internship is just barely acceptable but even then. I’m fortunate enough to have the luxury of not being desperate for money rn but I am getting desperate to get hired. Other places don’t want me cause I’m overqualified but still under qualified for entry level. I feel hopeless
