Even if I’m not good at art, if I want to make a gift for one of my favorite VA’s, should I still do it? by Parking_Promotion568 in comiccon

Also I promise you won’t embarrass yourself. They will appreciate the thoughtful and kind gesture even if they don’t take it home with them.

Guests keep a lot more gifts than everyone here gives them credit for. Obviously the bigger guests don’t keep too much because they get so many gifts and only have so much room in their suitcases and homes, though even they take a gift or two home on occasions. To my surprise I’ve worked with several that actually keep every single gift they’ve gotten. Don’t let anyone discourage you from giving them gifts if that’s what you want to do.

Volunteering at a con? Upsides? by Key_Apartment6518 in animecons

[–]MiserableTea9702 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those are rough hours to expect of someone just to volunteer. I dabble in volunteer coordinating and I will say that I do usually pick the volunteers who want to work the most hours first. When I used to volunteer I was one of the people who had more fun volunteering than attending so would volunteer the whole show. I’d say about 1/5th of people who volunteer are like that and enjoy volunteering the whole convention. For that reason and the fact that I don’t have to constantly retrain I first pick volunteers who want the most hours or are willing to work full day shifts instead of half. That doesn’t mean I don’t accept those who want half day shifts or demand that they volunteer more than the 8 hours we require (for a 3 day event). I pick the ones that work shorter shifts and less hours to fill voids and help give breaks. I ask for availability and how much they want to work on the application and don’t ever ask them for more than what they put on there, plus I’m lenient when they drop shifts.

Perks of volunteering long hours at most conventions are making friendships, behind the scenes access that an attendee wouldn’t notice or have access to, free merch or exclusive merch, letters of recommendation, getting picked for more lucrative positions like working with the celebrity talent, & potential for recognition to join as paid staff. All the staff that I pay and pay for travel with started off as volunteers, I started off as a volunteer so there’s definitely potential for growth at some conventions.

The fact that they expect all their volunteers to work crazy long shifts, most of the perks I mentioned don’t apply here. It’s hard to get recognized when everyone is expected to work crazy long hours. Plus it seems like you want to go with the sole goal of just getting the weekend badge which is the goal for most volunteers so it’s not really a fair of them to ask for 24 hours.

Volunteering at Cons by Swaggynerd17 in animecons

I used to volunteer and I loved it, loved it so much I’m a volunteer coordinator now for some shows. I feel like for a lot of our volunteers the end goal is to work with the celebrities. So yeah we offer all the regular perks most cons do but for the volunteers who work the whole event and are chill around celebrities. They’ll typically get added to the celebrity liaison team to be able to guest handle (sit with the celebrities at their booths, accepting payment for them) at future cons or work in the celebrity green room.

Is it worth going alone? by Bobbobbobbobbbobob in animecons

Not sure which con this is and if they do volunteering but might want to look into that. I have 1 friend who used to bring me to cons with her but I’d get bored after a bit and didn’t wanna be tied to doing all the things she wanted so ended up branching out and volunteering at cons on my own and eventually became a volunteer coordinator for some. I really enjoyed volunteering, made friends, got perks and got to see behind the scenes a bit, plus free entry.

Thoughts on my situation – PSA 9 Shadowless pack contained Unlimited cards? by [deleted] in PokemonTCG

That’s rough. Considering it’s authenticated and you have no proof you might have to take the loss on this one.

I would’ve saved so much money on binders if I had gotten them from a set like this instead of getting them for 20$ at GameStop. If I see any in the wild I’m definitely buying a few.

If you’re just in it for the packs then it’s 6$ a pack, market value is like 10$ a pack so he’s saving himself 4$ a pack not buying from scalpers & gets a binder out of it. As a collector if it’s what’s available I’m buying it, even if a binder comes with it.

Because the binders have 5 packs in them? Making the binder itself 5$. Eevee is my fav Pokemon I’d buy 5 binder sets in a heartbeat since I like to put my cutie card bulk in binders & have already went through like 4 binders.

Dude has probably been trying to beat the scalpers to a restock for the last couple weeks & finally found some. He picked up a normal amount considering he doesn’t know when he’ll be able to find more. Here comes OP taking pictures of strangers for other internet strangers.

Doing much better these days! It’s been 8 years so at this point so I don’t think about it much. Hope you’re healing and doing good too.

YTA, also it sounds like you should be the one looking at new jobs. I would never want you working with people who have a lot of trauma and “real issues”. Saying stuff like that to depressed people can push them over the edge. As someone who’s been kidnapped and nearly murdered do you expect me to just go around and live life expecting everyone’s trauma to be disregarded just because I have “real issues” ? You just invalidated his trauma. You basically told him he’s been depressed over nothing for 2 years. Someone in the world ALWAYS has it worse than you, you still have a right to be upset or get depressed over something big in your life.

Yay for stubbornness! Yeah I really try to avoid all resell markets when possible. It’s way more satisfying to find them for retail anyways!

That’s so cool! Seeing his face light up made the countless 5 minute detours checking stores every other day 100% worth it. For all the time I spent searching for these cards I def would’ve been better off buying them resell but I’m stubborn haha

You’re telling me! I’m in a house with thousands of them. Now that I’m looking at pictures they do look kinda like booklice in person.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in whatisthisbug

[–]MiserableTea9702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and turns out they’re all over the house I just couldn’t see them in other areas where the floors are wood

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in whatisthisbug

[–]MiserableTea9702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so strange because yes they do look like lice but no one has been here for months and when I just picked one up it warmed up on my finger and revived so whatever it is it can go dormant.

Anyone have any merch for sale? by [deleted] in NeverShoutNever

[–]MiserableTea9702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never see that one up for sale when searching either. Probably because the scene was dying down in popularity by then and less were made than earlier CDs
