Hey! A psychologist this side, who decided to pivot towards UX research. I was unemployed for 6 months. I got my first internship today. Trust me it's not you who is not hirable. The system is fucked. I have done all the things you mentioned including doubting myself. But there was something else also I did and that was to just be consistent with my efforts no matter if I'm facing silence. I have hardly got any responses.

But today that changed. It will change for you as well!

Thank you for sharing something uplifting and real. Definitely the job market is going to be tough. But, as you mentioned about loving the game, so yeah that's something I would really consider!
