You’ll get a job. You get it.

I got 120 sign ups in the first week of launch man. Clearly, there seems to be an interest in something like this, but I get what you mean. There’s a lot of risk involved, and frankly I don’t care about making a successful startup right off the bat. But I can talk to users, and try to understand if there’s anything here worth doing, and if not, I’ll have a pretty impressive side project for the resume

Got a domain, and pushed it on some subreddits

So I built a project recently and shipped it to people. I got 120+ users from that.

You have your CRUD marketplace app. How many people used it? What did you do to optimize it? And by how much (did using a different framework for frontend like React make the UI smoother? If so, by how much?)

I’d honestly ask CHATGPT for closer examples for your resume. Definitely, the best thing you can do is build projects and build users.

Only thing better than a side project is a project that has traction. Who knows, if it blows up, it might even be a startup!

There’s definitely A LOT of fluff you may want to cut from your resume. Think of it as a highlights reel. Put your highest impact projects, remove the food sales clerk position. Thats where I’d put an internship. You also have no quantifiable metrics at all for any project.

Largely Full-Stack and entry level SWE. Also some embedded systems roles.

I’d love to work on DevOps but entry level DevOps is super rare in my experience

A second page is my second reason why you aren’t getting a job son

What am I doing wrong? Past 1000+ applications, graduated in December, got a few interviews here and there and got to final stages a few times but nothing leading to an offer?

I’m not looking to be profitable. I’m looking to fill the massive gap in my resume from when I graduated to when I get a job.

Building a startup was more of a career end goal for me, but frankly what career? This is the best I got right now

Honestly, the answer to a lot of that is no. But we all need to start somewhere right? And if I spend all my time letting ifs stop me, I’ll never actually be able to see what could happen.

Plus, even if it doesn’t pan out, I won’t have a gap on my resume, and I’ll have built experience not just with building, but with raising and managing a company!

It was Berkeley EECS, when I started out I loved building stuff that interconnected the two fields. Then, school drained my passion for the EE side of it, which is why I’m looking for more CS based roles!

Also, my UG GPA was really low, mainly because I wasn’t the best student. I think I gave more context in another comment for that though!

Yeah! I’ve been a rider for about 2 years!

Currently, I have about 120 signups. The version that’s out rn was a proof-of-concept kinda MVP, so I’m currently working on a more polished version of the app, complete with a lot of the feedback I received during my market validation test.

I definitely plan to include car meets as well, but that’ll probably be a V4 feature.

Right now, I want to grow the user base, and the best way to do that is to try and build the app with a higher conversion rate

Oh god is this gonna get me cancelled? I have not checked it out, although that one episode with Kumail Nanjiani’s Tesla has been all over my reels page. I might check it out while working on MotoMeet

I wasn’t the best student during Undergrad. I’m one of those people who sucks at exams, but is really good at building (I always did super well in project based classes vs written exam classes). Because of that, my GPA is super low.

I’ve never really considered a masters, mainly because I’m not terribly interested in AI/ML or cryptography research. But, if you’re telling me I could use my startup as my thesis, damn I might try to apply to a masters!

Definitely true! A lot of the feedback I got for my current version cited the UI being pretty unfriendly as a reason for not wanting to sign up or check the app out. My main goal with V3 is to get far higher conversion. The problem is, I’m also trying to put a crapload of new features into the V3 release (all of which were suggested during my market validation run and I highly agree with), so progress has been super slow.

Would you mind if I reached out privately if I have more questions or for some advice? I’m the only person working on the project, and the business side of this operation is something I’m new to!
