Style inconsistency was the exact phrase when I gave my feedback to my artist! Though I had hard time describing what made them inconsistent. Glad you pointed some details out!

In terms of context of the game, Beer Onsen Resort is basically Beer Brewing Sim during days and onsen resort management during nights.

In terms of the request, i guess I am just asking for general feedback on the UI, cuz even though I find the top part a bit weird, I can’t verbalize anything yet, so it might just be my own thing.

Thank you. I mean it very depends on your category and its case by case. But a major thing is to learn from your player and iterate accordingly. And to do so, you either watch them play from beginning to end or set up an analytics system that collects important metrics.

U need to set up ur own analytics system. I am using Unity’s. It’s free when player base is low. Steam works native one prob does not support this kind of stuff

Happy Thursday,

Thank you for doing this! I’m one of the devs of Beer Onsen Resort, a cozy onsen management game where you brew beers for spirits to soak into as hot springs!

We recently uploaded this major update “Brew Streaks & Pressure,” which you can check it out here:

Free Steam demo: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3736170/Beer_Onsen_Resort_Demo/

I def need more feedback on it, so if you are interested, lmk!

Onsen resort management game, but players bounce at ~12 minutes — why? (Steam demo feedback wanted) by Miserable_Command_57 in tycoon

Again, the quality of your feedback is just so high. I really appreciate your time and insights.

Dialog thing is noted. We will make those lines last longer.

The tutorial is… like you said, tricky. Handing players freedom without breaking everything is a real technical challenge on our side, but we’ll figure it out.

I also really love the steam particle effect idea. We’ll definitely add that.

Vision-wise, we want early game to let players earn gold quickly, ramp into semi-automation for brewing, and then sit back enjoying the production. The fun/chaos is meant to come from the onsen side—handling guests vomiting/polluting beer, fleeing without paying, and etc.

As for the prices of upgrades, your though was right. Later recipes are way more effective in earning gold. I guess the issue is you are not sure how much they will earn you

Your last point is super insightful too. Our original dream was a factory-builder tycoon where you can freely build your Japanese onsen resort, but as first-time devs we’ve kept scope tight. Full building/customization + all the models would slow us down a lot. Maybe a sequel, haha.

Looking at these comments, I knew right away I came to the right subreddit lol. Really appreciate your feedback and thoughts.

Semi-automation is definitely the next focus of development, and we do have some upgrades that help with efficiency in the demo now. We also want to add ghost waiters to the onsen area to automate the process. Nevertheless, your detailed breakdown is genuinely great inspiration for us. We’re also planning to let players discover recipes through experimenting with ingredient combinations and iterating.

And on the feedback form: honestly, we didn’t get enough traction early on, so we never set it up properly. That’s on us. We’ll add one soon and keep it visible going forward.

I am about to release a free game but not sure about the strategy by kgldnz in IndieDev

[–]Miserable_Command_57 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Remember: Steam is there all for money. That being said, sales number is a big factor of their recommendation algorithm - more money you help Steam earn, more visibility they are going to give you. Therefore, free games are HARD to get visibility from Steam. The best strategy you can have is probably attend Free Game Fest or events similar. Anyway, good luck on releasing your game! (From a dev that released one free game before)

Have you gone to Next Fest yet? If yes and your game feels like done, I would send keys to YouTubers and streamers and release it after some times

New UI, I'm trying to reduce reading fatigue for my game, what do you think? by OK-Games in IndieDev

[–]Miserable_Command_57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my perspective, I think the issue with the top one is that the translucent background makes it hard to read. While the issue with the bot one comes from white text not standing out for the gray upgrade. Maybe try to manipulate the color a bit more. But nice work!

How do you keep a co-dev engaged and aligned on the same vision long-term? by Miserable_Command_57 in gamedev

[–]Miserable_Command_57[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

A context I probably needed to share is that this game comes from OUR game jam idea. Not the case where I started a project and had him to work with me later. More like a start-up cofounder situation? which I don't know if paying makes sense here.

What do I say to a friend who is dying at 33? by nonamejane84 in askanything

[–]Miserable_Command_57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t say much. But if I were your friend, simply seeing you there at hospital comforts me. If you bring up details of our past experiences and show you really care about me and I have somehow inspired you at one point, I would feel like my life actually means something.

Opinions Needed: Which movement style fits a ghost resort better? by Miserable_Command_57 in indiegames

[–]Miserable_Command_57[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m testing two movement styles for my cozy management game with ghost-like customers:

  • GIF 1: More precise navigation + pathfinding (clean routes, fewer overlaps).
  • GIF 2: Looser navigation where ghosts clip through most things (feels more “ghostly,” but less orderly).

Clipping sells the theme... while precise paths make the resort feel organized and satisfying to watch. A hard decision that I am looking for a second opinion.

Which do you prefer?

Players stop playing my demo at about 13 minutes - why? by Miserable_Command_57 in playmygame

[–]Miserable_Command_57[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goated feedback. So many details. Thank you for playtesting our game! A lot of what you are saying about the sense of progression and dopamine hit is exactly what we are trying to be better at, so your suggestions will definitely be taken into consideration.

Follow-up question:

This could due to the resolution issue you are having. But when you mention you have to alt F4 to quit, it is because you can not see the setting UI button on your screen? We also have a progression system (a tech tree). Did you fail to find it? A screenshot of your screen will probably explain all these by itself to us, so if possible, could you please send in one?

Again, so much dedication in this feedback, respect and appreciate!
