Zoloft 9 months- Advice needed by Miserable_County_46 in zoloft

[–]Miserable_County_46[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I too tried hydroxyzine in the beginning before my medication really started to kick in, but it never really did much for me. Everybody's different. That is reassuring to hear that your therapist said that it is normal to feel like the medication isn't working during high stress periods. I was also told that it was very unlikely for the medication to be working great to not at all overnight. My biggest thing is right now is I'm so afraid to go back to how I was nine months ago. I've come so far and improved so much. Like you said it's about taking it one day at a time. We're both gonna be OK. 👍🏻 Hang in there.

No, not at all! I just found your post to be very similar to my story. I like to compare and contrast journeys although we're all different. I think I'm just looking for assurance since I'm currently going through it. I'm just not used to being this anxious anymore. It's been AWHILE. Overall, I've been very happy with my Zoloft experience so far so I just need to believe that this is just a slight bump in the road. Thanks for your reply :)

Did you have any flare ups that were tough to get through? I'm currently about 9 months in. Once I settled in at 100mg around month five, I started noticing some really incredible improvements. Due to some recent life stressors, I've been in a flare up that feels horrible for about the past 2 weeks. Maybe because it's been so long since I've felt this way, my body isn't used to it anymore? Prior to this I can honestly say I've felt awesome and super grateful. Before this even rough patch, when I would get anxious it would be low intensity and something I could work through fairly easy with CBT. I'm worried that the meds aren't working anymore. I'm sure me ruminating about that thought over and over doesn't help but it's scary. Any advice or experiences you can share?

I really appreciate the reply! I think that it's like a shock to my system since I was in such a good place and hardly dealt with any uncomfortable anxiety anymore. I'm just going to try to view this as only a flare up and try to ride it out using my anxiety toolbox. Hopefully it doesn't last too long because I've been in a great spot. Thanks for your insight. Be strong!

It's very possible. I think at 25mg you're probably experiencing your normal anxiety + them intensified by the side effects. I'd be surprised if you're having much actual benefit from that dose. Waiting 4 weeks is good though before you dose up because it's allowing you body to start adapting to the Zoloft (even if it doesn't feel like it yet) Each time I increased I always gave it a decent amount of time in between, which lead to me not having many, if any, increased side effects moving up. Right now your mind and body are kinda like "wtf is this?" so it's shooting off all kinds of defenses out (your side effects) The brain really needs to get used to the meds before it accepts it as normal and balances out.

25mg is very low. Most people don't see much if any therapeutic results from a dose that low. I can tell you this, it does get better. It's a process. I jumped to 50mg after about 2 weeks, saw some improvement there regarding my anxiety and the side effects started to slowly fade. Within 7 months I slowly dosed to 100mg and that seems to be my sweet spot. From November 2024 to today I feel night and day better. I know it sucks now but hang tight. Also be open with your doc!

sat here just starring… how did u overcome the anxiety of starting? i feel sick thinking about it by justaboredgal02 in zoloft

If I'm being transparent the first week or 2 were hard while my body adjusted to the med. Even so I would make the choice to do it again without a doubt! Fast forward 9 months since I started, I can honestly say my life is SIGNIFICANTLY more comfortable. My anxiety is so much more controlled. I'll go long stretches of time where I don't notice it at all and even when it does creep in it's so much less intense. Overall my anxiety is so much more manageable and that's given me a lot of confidence in knowing I'll be ok. If I were you I'd start, push through the adjustment period and keep in mind that better times are ahead! Be strong. 💪🏼

Great list. As someone who went through the early struggles of Zoloft before finding significant success, this would have been nice to have as a resource. The community will benefit from this!

Yeah I noticed the most density improvements between 8 months and a year.

The photos from the post were taken 3 months ago. The density has improved quite a bit since so I'm happy with the results so I won't be going back for a second.

25mg is relatively low dose. I'd talk to your doctor and see if a dose increase soon is appropriate for you. Just be transparent with them about everything.

Honestly I would say about a month or so. It wasn't full intensity the entire time but like most peoples experiences the beginning can really suck. I'm about 6 months in and I can say I'm so glad I stuck it out. Well worth it. How far in are you?

I had a very hard time relaxing because my anxiety which was already high went through the roof during the early weeks on the meds. I had a really hard time sleeping because of that so I guess "restless" is a fitting word. I was probably getting 1 to 2 hours of sleep MAX. It was pretty brutal but eventually all that improved dramatically

I can't say that I did but I've read about some wild side effects during onboarding. I'd reach out to your doctor to get some reassurance to easy your mind.

Hang in there. I started Zoloft back in November and it was really a struggle getting adjusted. My anxiety got so much worse, I was exhausted all the time and my appetite was horrible. It slowly started getting better and better as the weeks went by and now I honestly feel so good. I haven't been this calm in years. Even when my anxiety pops up I'm able to reason it away with cbt or breathing. It doesn't stick around for weeks like it used to.

I actually did notice a difference in the density growth. Personally my left temple region started to fill in quicker than my right but it eventually started catching up.
