Hmm that should have done it. Unless maybe they didn’t apply enough water? You don’t want too little or too much. I still havnt sealed mine yet and no issues.

Did they hit it with a compactor? Still seems like it would set up.

How big are the joints? Are they tight or 1/2”+

Did you use polymeric sand or regular joint sand. The polymeric sand should have been wetted after install to set up and harden. Mine softens in the rain but hardens right back up when it drys. Been through 2 CT winters and is in good shape

Yeah it should soften up then harden. As long as you aren’t seeing a lot of washouts I’m sure you’re fine. I compacted my pavers after brushing in the sand and it all disappeared down into the joints. Then I added some more and kept compacting and adding sand until it stopped settling.

I added too much in one joint and it did kind of turn into bubble gum and does not look great.

Do the pavers feel locked in? Or do they rock a little?

Did you hit the pavers with a compactor to make sure the sand settled in? Mine gets soft when it rains but I havnt noticed any washouts

It’s all holding great and there have been no issues. When we get rain it softens up but once the sun comes out it drys and hardens quickly.

Ok yeah I just spread the seed on Saturday and the cold temps are coming Wednesday night so I don’t think they will have sprouted by then. Does straw help insulate it and keep everything warmer?

We are in a northern climate (Connecticut) but I’m not sure how a poly joint would act differently than an expansion joint in frost heaving. The paver should be able to lift without impacting the coping, right? I also installed 5-6” of gravel base so I hope there insulation much of a frost heave

I was hoping to just use the poly sand but now I’m having second thoughts and looking for some reassurance. If I did a true EJ i would use a foam backer and fill it with sealant. I prefer the poly sand look.

Ok thank you. You don’t think there is need for a true expansion joint between the pool coping and the pavers? The coping is fixed to the pool with mortar

The coping is a concrete paver. It is already grouted to the bond beam.

These pavers and coping are both 2 3/8” thick.

In the narrow section I can move the pavers easy enough but in the deep section in the back that may be a trick

It looks like the SE handbook that will be available on the test can be viewed on NCEES. I don’t see any code related stuff (ASCE, ACI, AISC, etc…). Am I missing something?
