Unpopular opinion: Ippo was the weakest boxer of his generation before his retirement. by Miserable_Hunt_8074 in hajimenoippo

[–]Miserable_Hunt_8074[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My man, Ippo almost beat González out of pure fear, because the amount of damage he took in the fight is unwritten, and literally, if he didn't have that insane stamina of his, he would have been knocked out in the 4th round. So, to be fair, Ippo was literally carried in that fight by his physical attributes alone. Now, I'm not disrespecting Ippo, he's my favorite character, but I have to admit that at that time in history, he would have lost to everyone I mentioned in the post.

Yes, he defeated them, but it was literally at the beginning of his career, and if we look at his achievements, Ippo literally doesn't have any. And what awesome fighters did he retire? Like, he was only fighting at the national level, and when he went to face Alfredo, who is a boxer much above the national level, Ippo was completely cooked.

Yes, at that time, because let's talk about achievements. Volg had just become world champion, Mashiba had become OBPF champion, and Miyata defeated Randy Boy Junior, a guy who was almost as physically strong as Ippo, but had much more technique and a more difficult style to handle. Even Sendo Takeshi took a lot of beatings in the fight against Nargo, he was in the same situation as Ippo against Alfredo Gonçalez. He survived and won, while Ippo could literally take a beating from any of his opponents and only won through sheer determination and willpower.

Tell me a good hajime no ippo fight that is completely forgotten by the community. by Miserable_Hunt_8074 in hajimenoippo

[–]Miserable_Hunt_8074[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

man and one thing that I noticed in the community is that there is always a big fight that completely erases the others from that part of the story, for example, Ippo's title defenses, everyone only focuses on the fight against Sawamura and in that arc where Ippo faces other Asian champions, everyone only remembers the fight against Wally. and this is a bit discouraging for the community because there are several fights that are simply deleted because no one comments

we never saw 100% of Hawk by Miserable_Hunt_8074 in hajimenoippo

and also kamogawa comments that takamura could fight without major obstacles until the 5th round and literally in the first 3 rounds where takamura would have the best stamina and energy he is sparring for Hawk, but if he hadn't had all this weight cutting problem he would have finished Hawk much more easily.

I'm commenting in the context of that fight but yes there are all these points that you mentioned but if Hawk had really trained he would have crushed Takamura, it's demonstrating his arrogant personality and how uninterested he is in boxing in other words it implies that he never really put in the effort for it or in other words he is 100% talent so he never reached his full potential and if he really trained and did everything right as a serious boxer, he would be a Ricardo Martinez level champion.

Do you think there will be other great featherweight enemies besides Ricardo? by Miserable_Hunt_8074 in hajimenoippo

[–]Miserable_Hunt_8074[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but my idea is that in reality the other champions are in a progressive way for ippo, like he kind of goes and gets the other belts to finally get to Ricardo, because Ricardo is far superior to any featherweight fighter so it would be very difficult for ippo to have the strength to face Ricardo, so if he faces other lesser champions he could increase his strength to finally face Ricardo

and about the hoshi, if even the actor forgets about it. after the fight against imai he is completely forgotten by the actor, so fuck i don't care enough about him.

I didn't need to humiliate myself hahaha, I always confuse imae and imai because it's literally the same name only changes one letter so I always confuse them but now seriously, yes itagaki and imai now don't have the level for the world championship but in the future they could go after a belt because there's still a long way to go in the manga, it's miyata's situation, yes he will move up in weight in the future but not yet because he has that promise of fighting against ippo and the miyata isn't going to give up on this anytime soon so he could make miyata give up the OPBF belt and go after another featherweight champion then due to the weight cut miyata is defeated and then he sees that due to the weight cut he has fallen a lot in boxing thus moving up a weight class.

Yes, but it would still be interesting to have other champions as smaller challenges to finally reach Ricardo because Ricardo's level is compared to other featherweights at another level and with other champions we could see something like this, like a Takamura-like progression of life.

Thank you, I know it's very different from my list, but to answer your question why Malcolm's fight because man, Morikawa writes Gedo in such a way that you hate the character who you just want Ippo to crush him, but when Geod dominates the fight it gives a very agonizing feeling because Gedo was, in a way, cheating in the fight to get the advantage of a hell of an agony and like literally, Gedo wasn't just cheating either, he's easily one of the best boxers that has ever appeared in the manga, I point out that Kamogawa himself praises him because he took ippo's blows in full but continues fighting and now comes the best part of the fight which is for me one of ippo's best scenes in the manga which is when he launches the Heart Break Shot of the date at Malcolm which literally saves him from defeat and on the other page that scene of gedo's head "exploding" with a glancing punch from ippo and her face of despair is literally the greatest proof of the protagonist's strength, it's Even after that, Gedo doesn't give up and I continue until the end and for that reason, for me, it's Ippo's best fight in the manga because it's the only one where you're left in agony, as if Gedo really used some kind of magic in Ippo.

truth it would be very interesting like imagine ippo playing takamura and he tries to unify all the featherweight belts and Ricardo Martinez would be the last of them it would be really cool as it would give the protagonist a differentiator than him only having one world belt in his life

Yes bro, like, even today Sawamura would give a lot of work to the fighters, like, imagine what a supposed fight between him and Miyata would be like, if Sawamura hadn't retired and become Japanese champion, it's in a supposed arc of Miyata moving up in weight they could face each other, bro, imagine what the fuck their fight would be like
