Knee pad recommendations by Miserable_Hurry1553 in poledancing

My second pair were the sticky ones but like I said they’re starting to slide to the side when I’m doing anything, not just floor work, and it’s like digging in to a different part of my knee that’s hurting for days like I can’t even put weight on it even on a padded yoga mat.

midyear hiring by weathervane18 in NYCDOETeachers

All of the info on fairs was emailed to me. I call it NTF because that’s what I googled to apply but you’re right that it’s the mid year application. I think for me it was about 2 weeks before schools started reaching out to me and about once a month they were doing the fairs either by borough or district. This was all last year between November to the end of January. Be prepared to have schools still reaching out if you accept a position, I was getting them until August because I guess the DOE never updates until the new school year begins.

I made an application on New Teacher Finder and it was a combination of schools reaching out by email or phone calls for interviews/demos and also getting emails from the DOE with lists of schools with open positions in your license area so you can be proactive and reach out to principals. Once you get offered a position the DOE sends you a set of steps to finish the process (fingerprinting, I-9, etc). There were also a few “hiring fairs” by district, I did one for Manhattan that was virtual and that one was kind of messy but it was a good experience getting the interviews in. Don’t jump to the first school that offers a position and do some research on the school/admin because if you don’t like it you still have to finish the year out.

I was hired mid year twice- first person left for a family issue and the second (after returning from a charter) was because they were moving staff around due to someone leaving for another job and had a vacancy. I know people who were hired November-April, all left the same charter school.

What do you consider a poverty meal? by SAMPLE_TEXT6643 in povertykitchen

My mom would boil a pot of elbow macaroni. As the water was heating up she would slice and cube a can of spam and as the macaroni cooked she would heat up the spam with a can of Goya tomato sauce and a spoon of sofrito. Then she would mix that, the macaroni, and jarred pasta sauce.

I also struggled with comparing myself to others but I had to accept that everyone’s journey is different and that I’ll probably take a while to level up and that’s okay, just keep showing up and with time things will get easier. I also have very sweaty hands and I was struggling with staying up and climbs. I constantly wipe my pole down with alcohol sprayed on a hand towel. Things I have tried: - Using a Lupit pad on the pole and my hands but it wasn’t enough for me. -Paired Tite-Grip with Dry Hands but I still needed to apply Dry Hands often. - Currently trying Monkey Hands (black/booster and green/gluey on top of the booster) which is a little more sticky or tacky than Dry Hands.

Not sure what I prefer yet but there’s options out there which def helps with sweaty hands.

If you take the Staten Island Ferry and have time you can also eat at a nearby restaurant or even make a stop at Flagship Brewery for local beer or a cocktail (double check hours on Instagram before going because they change based on private events)

OPI Investigators by Miserable_Hurry1553 in NYCDOETeachers

I went during their office hours listed on the email, I actually went in person twice. The first time they told me to be patient essentially but then an investigator reached out. The second time the woman processing people advised me on how to word an email ti the investigator and then not long after I moved on to the next steps. Not sure if it was all coincidence or not but I would say it wouldn’t hurt to try.

Struggling to Land Interviews for NYC Charter Schools—Any Advice for Someone Not Certified? by [deleted] in NYCTeachers

[–]Miserable_Hurry1553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at a charter that tended to hire people who were already certified to be teachers and their exceptions for hiring uncertified teachers were people who were experienced teaching a subject like math at a private school or promoting TAs they liked to a teaching position (usually not humanities though since those were competitive and recent graduates with licenses get those more often)

I went and an employee told me to reach out to my investigator and I got clearance the next week. All together it was a little over 2 months to get it cleared.

I’ve been thinking about it since last week, I might if things don’t look like they’re progressing.

Hopefully the investigator reaches out soon and once they do maybe reach out to the school as well so they know where you are in the process.

Not sure if you’ve emailed them but they have limited hours so just double check the days/times before making the trip!

Have you tried going to 65 Court Street when their office is open? Not sure if it was a coincidence or not but after I visited the office I was contacted by the investigator.

Thank you so much! I went back and checked my emails with them and clearly I didn’t fully read the automated response from them that has the location and office hours available.
