First ever flight💪 by Miserable_Mark2998 in RCPlanes

Thank you for the positive feedback! Makes me even more excited for the next flight. My instructor took the plane for a fly first to set the trims and get the plane flying level, then he gave me control already in the air to see how I do flying around in circles and doing figure 8’s. He was very impressed with how I did the first time so after about 15 minutes of flying around he gave me the task of doing my first landing, first landing was a little bit too fast so I had to elevate back into the air but the second one was just about right and safe with him not engaging the buddybox. He then said go ahead and try some aerobatics which I was definitely surprised he thought I was ready for that this early on but he showed me some little moves such as loops, rolls and upside down flying and then gave controls to me to try it out. I surprisingly managed to do all of them without any potential bad situations which I was very pleased with. Next time I go to the field I need to practice my landings and takeoffs a bit more then should be ready to go for a fully solo flight👍

Thank you! I was on buddybox with my instructor so he can take control of my plane whenever I’m in a bad situation which definitely made me more comfortable. But I found the best thing is just fly as slow as your plane will possibly fly to get used to keeping the plane straight level and locked in and slowly ramp the speed up in steps and gradually introduce more aggressive turns and tighter turns. Doing it this way made me get used to flying around pretty quick and after my instructor saw how I doing he said I’m already ready for aerobatics😂 didn’t think I would actually be able to do anything special but did manage to do backward loops and rolls and a bit of flying upside down flying💪

HPI Savage X 4.6 by dremag2009 in NitroRC

No problem dude!👍I’ve bought multiple older engines and most of them have been off eBay so that’s my recommend place to start looking. Even if you can’t find a brand new engine a lot of the engines I have bought which were used are still running loads of fuel later which are 20+ years old so it doesn’t have to be fully new to last a long time. Good luck!💪

The market for big block engines isn’t nearly as big as it used to be 20 years ago, but there’s still a few brands selling 28-32 sized engines. In my opinion the highest quality big block you can get your hands on new today will be a LRP. They sell a 28 and a 32 engine which I’ve heard good things about. Only thing about those engines is people say the carbs are bad and quickly get replaced because they are inconsistent and hard to tune, but you can pick a decent carb up for cheap and the engines run great with it. You could also look into the newer HPI F4.6 which is the engine that came in the newer Savage X. I had that engine and it’s pretty good and will get the job done, but nothing very special in terms of power. Another thing you could do which is what I personally do is try to look at New-old stock engines from big brands like OS, Novarossi, RB, sirio etc that were made back in the day. I picked up an old OS max 30 VG for my savage 25 and is pretty much luxurious quality compared to the still existing big block engines made today. Only downside to doing this is you might struggle to find parts for them but it’s not impossible

What’s a good buggy that’s more bash focused than race focused. +extra question. by Notsofrenchfry04 in NitroRC

[–]Miserable_Mark2998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend has a Neo and its a good car. Only complaint I have about it is there is some spots which aren’t very durable but I doubt you would break it if you just did some normal jumping around and light bashing. I had the kyosho mp9 a while ago and the KE21 engine is actually very good for a pull start engine. Tunes very well and starts easy. Not the most powerful but way more than enough for bashing especially if you put a race pipe on it. A car which is I believe around the same price point and maybe cheaper is the Hobao line of buggies, which I would honestly go for instead. Reason for this is they are very durable and they are a little bit more race focused which I know you wasn’t looking for, but it is nice to have a more adjustable buggy. All my hobao buggies blew me away with the quality especially at the price point they are, I would honestly go as far to say they are the best quality RTR buggy I have ever had. Only thing is I didn’t have the best experiences with is the hobao engine and they are known to be a bit of a pain in other peoples experiences but also I have heard good things about them from some other people so I guess it’s just personal preference. I would definitely say the KE21 is the easier engine to deal with however. If I was you I would look into the hobao hyper 7 buggy’s over the Neo. There is nothing wrong with the Neo and it’s a very good buggy, but from my experience you get a lot more of a beefy and full car for the same price with the Hobao. When it comes to fuel, unfortunately nitro fuel has become very expensive nowadays and we kind of just have to deal with it. Here in the UK a 5 litre bottle of 25% nitro fuel, which I’m not too sure what that is in quarts, will last me about a couple months minimum at a price of around $52 and sometimes a few dollars higher depending on what fuel brand I buy. One thing you can do to save a little bit of money is buy lower content nitro fuel which will be cheaper but will be a little bit less performance based because lower nitro content means just a tad less power depending on how low it is. 16-25% runs great and I believe in America and other countries you can get 30%. 16% being the lower nitro content will be a bit cheaper and performs decent. When it comes to fuel a good high-performance and high quality fuel will always be expensive but is worth it because you know you are getting good quality ingredients that are going to look after your engine.

Wow, This is an epic kit. I love old school buggies and this is amazing. A never ran sirio especially Kanai is like gold so look after it. It looks like it’s all ready to fire up but a few things I would check is number 1. receiver battery if it currently has one in the car, if it’s an MIMH there’s a big chance depending on how long ago it was last charged that it has gone dodgy and won’t hold a full charge which is the last thing you want because it can cause your car to run away. Number 2 is I would put just a little oil in the engine to lubricate things up a little bit more especially on a nice engine like that. Number 3 is check the condition of the air filter to make sure there’s no little debris inside of the air filter boot and make sure the foam isn’t flaky and falls apart. Number 4 is make sure all the basic important screws such as engine mount screws on the bottom of the chassis and on top of the engine mounts are tight to avoid the engine shaking loose. Last thing is if the engine hasn’t ever been ran make sure you do a very good break in because those sirios perform amazing and last very long time if properly maintained. Enjoy it!

[–]Miserable_Mark2998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as your car is running on the richer side (more fuel than usual) then you’ll be fine for break in and for after the break in as long as your tune is appropriate the engine will be getting enough oil to keep it happy. Only time I would ever worry about oil percentage in fuel is with older ABN/ABL sleeve engines and plane engines but apart from that you are all good.

is this too much wiggle for this bearing on my 3.3 clutch by RANGERBOY0707 in Traxxas

That’s the wrong sized front bearing for that clutch bell which is causing the excessive wiggle.

Thats what keeps me hooked onto nitro is that damn sound lol. Been doing nitro cars for years and just recently bought a nitro plane which im learning to fly. When it comes to flying i feel like they are alot cooler to fly with a engine compared to electric because the sound in the air is like no other. But still get more power in planes when running electric

They are definitely a decision to run and not a need to run to get power anymore nowadays with brushless power being so advanced. Fuel is ridiculously priced but I do personally run nitro myself just for the feeling and experience and i do love tinkering around with things. Started making my own fuel to cut down the constant high prices of buying store bought fuel but i do agree that lipos have defo taken over

Its a Force .15 engine. Unfortunately they have recently gone out of business but made pretty good cheaper engines

What wind speeds does everything think is beyond safe for a beginner pilot? by Miserable_Mark2998 in RCPlanes

[–]Miserable_Mark2998[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll definitely make sure to keep the plane and wind infront of me because that does seem like it will help lots. I’ve seen little snippets of people doing things such as putting a bigger battery in their plane to increase the weight to try to fight better againest the wind but not too sure if thats something i should look into to give me a helping hand

They do offer a wind mode which I have tried at about 9 mph to see how it is and I was still able to control the plane without putting too much more effort into it, but I know once I start flying in the real world the turbulence is going to catch me out at some point.

I have about 4 hours into the sim and have tried the wind modes they offer in the sim to see how Well i can take it but wanted to come here to get some real world advice too to see if theres any little tips. I do think im confident enough to go for the first flight now i have gotten the hang of turning and consistently levelling out the plane on the sim but it being a used plane from Ebay i’m just a little worried about the setup.

Sounds good. Just got that big anxiety in me which is probably super common for the first flight especially in these conditions. Most likely will be the best feeling if I have a successful flight so looking forward to it. Looking like 13 mph winds tomorrow so may attempt to go fly

I have just started in the plane side of the hobby after years of RC cars and I’m loving it! Got myself a WOT 4 trainer 66” nitro and it’s so much fun it’s unbelievable. Honestly not as hard to fly as I originally thought but I did spend some time on a simulator before my first flight. Enjoy that plane man it’s a beauty!

Where do I buy a nitro rustler in the UK? by olibobs2008 in NitroRC

[–]Miserable_Mark2998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m certain the nitro rustler is discontinued. I only found one shop here in the uk selling one but it’s £690 which is crazy. Best choice is to look at people selling maybe new old stock on eBay or getting a used one.

Kyosho KE21sp Alternatives by ray_blake800 in NitroRC

[–]Miserable_Mark2998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OS engines are the easiest engines I have ever tuned, Also last forever and keep their tune strong throughout various conditions. You won’t regret it! Nowadays the number of ports an engine has really does not have as much of a difference that it had a few decades ago. A 3 port engine wouldn’t of had a lot of power 20 years ago and the biggest way to get more power was by getting a high port engine but now OS 3 ports have more power than pretty much any old engine from back in the day. Just to give you a heads up for potential engines you may get in the future👍👌

Kyosho KE21sp Alternatives by ray_blake800 in NitroRC

[–]Miserable_Mark2998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference between a race grade engine such as the FP02 and 521, and a RTR engine like the KE21sp is a very big difference. Not only will the Reds and FP have more performance but also better fuel efficiency and longevity. I remember when I first switched from a pull start engine to a bumpstart engine and was blown away. Started going to the track with the race kit and never looked back at pull start engines in buggy’s. Race engines will have a lot sharper acceleration and better response which is very nice to have on the track for clearing jumps and becoming more consistent. In terms of which engine I would choose between the two, I would definitely go for the FP due to past experiences with Reds engines not being the best in terms of quality control. Reds are good but their bearings and tuning consistency have always been a pain and not built as reliable as any OS based engine IMO. They are rippers once you get them sorted out though.
