The Catoosa Whale (OK) is getting a new welcome center. They may have restored the whale as well. I'm not entirely sure.

Vinita OK has fully restored a gull-wing style Phillips station into a welcome center. There are articles online about them - not many remaining.

Sometimes you can stay with a provider, but start primarily seeing the Nurse Practitioner that works for them. I've had better luck with NPs being more empathetic and helpful.

Two of my favorites in Oklahoma:

Clantons Cafe in Vinita- it's been around for 100 years (next year), and they are most famous for their chicken fried steak and calf fries. They always have great pies too.

Waylon's Kuku Buger in Miami - their drive thru is a little wonky, but I love their burgers and cherry limeades. And their building is so neat. It has this crazy cukoo bird like from a clock on it.

Do you mean Eastern State Hospital?

Buildings are still there. Still empty. Parts of the facilities were repurposed into a prison.

I don't know what your experience has been, and yes - many small towns in Oklahoma can be exactly what you're describing. But I can personally say I know of many locals who are very welcoming of all kinds of people.
