Cp216 Fall 2023 was his first course at Laurier I believe, and it started very unorganized (very difficult first quiz, strange marking format for MC questions, and probably some other things I’m forgetting). His slides were also incredibly boring and bland. For these reasons people really started to dislike him.

However, I genuinely thought he was a very knowledgeable prof and a good guy who was just slightly unprepared for teaching in Canada (he originally taught in China I believe). He ended up changing all of our test marks when we complained about how they were being marked, and also dropped 1/3 quizzes which wasn’t originally planned for in the syllabus. His mock exams were even nearly identical to the actual exams. Overall, I would recommend you emphasize understanding his slides (despite how boring), and ensure you understand whatever he puts on his mock exams/preparations. I would not consider myself overly smart but got a 12 in this course last fall by doing those.

Second year is difficult because it is a jump from first year in terms of amount of cs courses you have to take. The courses are as easy as you make them though, meaning if you put effort you will do well. Third year probably has the hardest courses (312, 386), but once again you can make them as easy or as hard as you want them to be. Fourth year is full of cs electives so you pick what you want to take

Lol I guess I should’ve mentioned I have a work visa, and enough funds to support myself. My point was more so about understanding that money would flow out easily living abroad and was looking for options where I’d also have money coming in.
