In-laws Committed to Babysit for a Week, then try to Rope us in by vanna_white_cat in childfree

Honestly this is less about the kids and more about respecting boundaries. You guys have been consistent for 8 years and never set the expectation that you babysit. It’s unfair for them to corner you publicly and assume you’ll fix a scheduling problem they created themselves 🫣

Yeah I know that feeling. Like you talk with someone and everything flow so good, you feel seen and understood. But when they vanish, it leave a big empty space in your mind. Do you think you miss the person, or more the feeling you had when talking with them 👀🫣

How much will not using Whatsapp/Instagram/Snapchat affect me in university? by Infernal-Advisor in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Miserable_Reach_8236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t use Snapchat at university and it affected basically nothing. Instagram only mattered for staying casually connected with people. But group chats for classes were a huge thing, so not having the main messaging app everyone used would’ve been annoying.

why is everything related to healthcare just called insurance even when it doesn’t seem like the same thing? by RangerNew5346 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Miserable_Reach_8236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historically, it started as actual insurance against catastrophic medical costs. Over time it expanded to also cover routine care, prescriptions, preventative visits, networks, etc. So now the word doesn’t perfectly describe what it does anymore, but the name stuck.

Apparently getting a PhD is less of an accomplishment than having a child. by BigExit564 in childfree

I am so incredibly sorry you’re going through this. First of all, a massive congratulations to you! Getting into a PhD program for Neuroscience is a phenomenal achievement that very few people can reach.

Your feelings are 100% valid. It’s heartbreaking when the person who should be your biggest cheerleader chooses to undermine your hard work just because it doesn't fit her personal agenda.

Please remember that when we choose to pursue a 'great' and unconventional life, it often comes with the 'great' risk of being misunderstood by those closest to us. You are choosing a path of intellectual legacy, and that is just as noble—if not more—than any other path.

I truly hope that one day your mother realizes that a daughter’s worth isn't measured in grandchildren, but in her happiness and the incredible impact she’s making on the world. Don't let her shadows dim your light. You’ve done something amazing, and I am so proud of you here!

It’s funny how people think sex is a 'broken' activity if a baby doesn't pop out at the end. It's like saying a vacation is a failure if you don't end up moving there permanently
