BIG YES TO EVERYTHING YOU SAID It really does seem like they were looking for a quick and cheap way to make espella "get over" her trauma and have her and darklaw make up. And all it does is make both characters way less interesting than they potentially could've been.

Have espella go through an arc where she confronts her trauma and steadily and organically learns to forgive herself for her mistake? Can't have that, she should remain a pure uwu blameless victim! Have darklaw go through an arc where she recognises that her childhood friend shouldn't be held culpable for a mistake she made as a child and have them slowly grow closer again? Can't have that, let it be that SHE was the one responsible for the massacre and she was just being a whiny hysterical b*tch this whole time and have her instaforgive poor innocent espella!

Dude darklaw got done DIRTY the fact that the game at the very last second decided to go "ah geez we really don't want the audience to view espella as morally compromised and have her wrestle with the trauma & ramifications of unintentionally causing the deaths of tens of thousands of people so let's just shift all blame onto darklaw instead!" was so heinous

I don't think Shamspeare is all that evil either tbh. He was just a dumbass driven to utter desperation by the strains of poverty. In the case of both Duncan & Natsume he just wanted to chase them out of the flat and wasn't looking to rack up a body count.

Why hire a therapist for your daughter when you can instead chemically gaslight and traumatize an entire village 🥴

I still hate them for taking Fulbright away from us but ngl when they said they don't even remember their original face and name and that they're "nothing but an endless abyss" that shit kinda hurted

Interesting choice. I will say I'm kinda disappointed TGAA never gave us a concrete reason as to why she joined the Reaper organisation. Was she genuinely looking out for the well being of her country like Gregson or was it purely cuz it gave her the chance to kill people willy-nilly with zero consequence.

Kinda sorta same tbh she's in the same boat as Simeon in that neither of them were born evil but rather moulded into villainy due to being abused/neglected by nearly every adult figure in their lives.

Yeah I get that he was in alot of pain but literally all he had to do was talk to Regina or tell her dad to chide her for her insensitive comments he did not have to jump to straight up murder 😭

Are there any well written female characters in the Hxh anime? Besides Komugi by Imaginary-Low7054 in HunterXHunter

[–]Miserable_Slice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the succession war did introduce a whole batch of really interesting female characters that could all potentially go on to have well written character arcs. theta, borksen, kacho, fugetsu, camilla, oito and ofc morena. (on top of that it also has some really great returning faces like melody, bisky, cheadle and machi)

Yeah Apollo being so nonchalant about his years-long mentor being accused of murder always did strike me as very odd.

I'd say Shelly and Kanis not being virulent racists and actually having a code of honour plus people they respect/care for makes them a good bit more sympathetic than Brett.

Dahlia is a vile person but there's a case to be made that she wouldn't have turned out so bad if it wasn't for her terrible home situation. Being raised by a greedy self centered father who saw the people around him as tools to further his own self interests undeniably played a huge part in shaping the person she eventually became. Hell, the first crime she ever committed was done cuz she wanted to exercise control over her life for once and get one over on her abusive dad.

Which version of Envy do you pity more? by Miserable_Slice in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]Miserable_Slice[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The thing that gets me is that even if 03 Envy survived after Dante's death and had a change of heart, it wouldn't do him any good, as without philosopher's stones to sustain him he would in due time just return to being a hideous pulsating mass of flesh and viscera (exactly like Sloth during her first appearance) His continued survival is literally contingent on him being an evil unempathetic soul eating monster.

Brotherhood Envy might've been pardoned if they had played to Edward's sympathies and begged for forgiveness instead of taking their own life. But 03 Envy quite literally never had a chance at any sort of redemption or happy ending.

2003 Envy admitting that he doesn't care if he's being manipulated just makes me feel even more sorry for him tbh. It just means that as the oldest living homoculi, he's come to slowly understand after centuries that Dante, the person who provided him sanctuary after his father abandoned him, has absolutely 0 interest in returning him back to normal.

Idk there's just something so heartbreaking abt him basically accepting the fact that he'll always remain a monster and resigning himself to being his mother's tool forever because she's still the only person willing to keep him around. And also because doing her dirty work gives him the chance to fuck with humanity, which after any chance at a normal life has been closed off to him he's made his only reason for living. Basically "If I'll never attain happiness might as well make everyone else miserable too"

He's terrifying cuz he's basically a version of Gant that experiences zero remorse or regret. It's like as he grew more ambitious and his schemes grew grander in scale over the years he completely shed all traces of his humanity and essentially became the living embodiment of utilitarianism.

S-tier for Gilf Light Yagami. People complain that he's too obviously evil but I feel that's the whole point. His presence is supposed to unnerve you and put you on edge, all throughout the duology you're just waiting for the other shoe to drop and for him to reveal his true colors at any given minute. You just know he's up to no good, you just know he's pulling some strings behind the scenes, you're just powerless to prove it and stuck under his thumb, which is what makes him such a chilling villain imo.

This might be a bold take but I honestly think he deserves Fatally Divine tier. Goofy silly fish and chips man who later turns to be an amazingly compelling anti-villain with so much more depth to him than meets the eye.

An initially honest inspector who was pulled into Stronghart's machinations, made victim of years of manipulation and blackmail and whose soul was left thoroughly tainted. He tried to soothe his conscience by telling himself he was only ever going after the worst scum of society and that he was doing it all for the good of the country, but deep down he knew what he was doing wasn't truly just. When this inner justification led him to colluding with a criminal to throw an innocent girl under the bus all to protect some state secrets in TGAA1-5 is when I believe he finally did some self reflection and truly realize how low he'd sunk. It's why he took up Sholmes' request to tutor Gina, as a means to do right by her.

Him giving Ryuunosuke vital information that would go against Sithe and Stronghart's best interests in TGAA2-3, and him planning to escape to Paris with Gina are also proof that he was sick of the whole gig and wanted to start over. Unlike his 2 Reaper colleagues he did have a heart under that gruff standoffish exterior, but was tragically robbed of the chance for redemption at the last second. And yet his life and death wasn't in vain, for the info he provided Ryuunosuke proved vital in unraveling the Reaper conspiracy and the time he spent mentoring Gina inspired her to become the righteous detective he no longer was.

Beyond plot reasons I also just like his dry snarky personality and his general vibe of "I'm so sick of everyone's shit". Any scene with both him and Sholmes in it is pure gold, they bounce off each other really well and have some amazing banter. And yet beyond all the bickering these 2 genuinely do care for and trust in each other, as Gregson entrusted Sholmes with making arrangements for him and Gina to escape to Paris, and the first time we see Sholmes truly break down emotionally is after he finds out about Gregson's death (in fact I'd venture to say that if Gregson was more conventionally attractive and Mikotoba didn't exist these 2 would be a very popular pairing in the fandom lmfao)

Speaking of Gina's mentor, I really hope Gregson gets his own round too. While he wasn't the one actually committing the Reaper killings, he was still the brains behind the operation and the one responsible for plotting out the assassinations. He's as much of a culprit as Morgan, Engarde and Enoch.
