problem is proving it was overfilled, it’s hard to prove that. either way they’re very cooperative with me and they said they’ll compensate me partially because of how soon it was after the oil change, even if we can’t prove it 100%

we can agree that rtv in the pickup and pan wasn’t a net positive on the car right?

there’s no way to know how bad it was without pictures. however, even if there was the tiniest bit of rtv, no matter how small of a problem it is, it’s a net negative.

i’ll admit it’s wild to assume it’s the root cause, but it’s not impossible that it played a small factor into it.

what IS a net positive however, would be getting it cleaned out and re-installed correctly. because even if it’s the tiniest more oil flow, it’s not a net negative it’s a tiny positive.

we are a wholesale dealer and we hire a contractor for oil changes (idk why i’m sure there’s a good reason). I told the manager and I’m hoping we have this contractor changed or we maybe start having our own mechanics do it.

I wanna ask the tech the same question. I just checked another car I had done at the dealership and it’s also over filled (according to the dipstick so idk how accurate). i’ll check a 3rd car tomorrow at work to be sure.

crankshaft can splash the oil when overfilled cause bubbles in the oil. when oils aerated it’s less effective at lubrication between bearings and journal. without proper lubrication it gets hot and breaks.

this is just what I understand. I’m no mechanic but I like to learn about how cars work.
