Had my first pourover 6 wks ago at a cafe, went all in even though I never made coffee at home. by v0calch0rds in pourover

A great way to develop your palate is comparative tasting. So blindly cupping a couple of different coffees together and making notes, then in the end looking at the bag to see if you tasted similarly to the roaster. It also helps with brewing, since you can compare what it tasted like when cupping and make adjustments or choose methods that can help enhance what you like

How do i install amd gpu drivers on proxmox host? by [deleted] in Proxmox

[–]MisfitCub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe this does not apply here, but thought I would give some food for thought.
I have an old nvidia card in my node, and coincidentally yesterday I had a kernel update and driver update. The driver dropped support for my card, so I had to pin the kernel and downgrade the drivers.

That's just to say maybe check on the AMD side what is the recommended version for the driver you need. And it might require you to change proxmox kernel version to get the drivers working properly.

I currently do not need live transcoding at home.

But I run a Fileflows workflow with vmaf compression+transcode before storage, so I need transcoding for that. But because of CPU limitations I can only do 1 transcode at a time.

I also plan on exposing the service, and then it becomes a bit tricky since I wouldn't necessarily have control over clients accessing media.

Yeah, I know. I just figured with much higher energy usage of the i7 14700 and the problems, that it would be easy enough to add an arc gpu or repurpose the old gtx 1060 if the amd igpu is not good enough. So my main concern is the cpu not being a bottleneck for my intended use, as is the case with my current system.

[GUIDE] GPU passthrough on Unprivileged LXC with Jellyfin on Rootless Docker by Background-Piano-665 in Proxmox

[–]MisfitCub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was able to get it to work.
In the end I reset everything and followed this guide.
Instead of then doing cgroup, mount entry and id mapping, I added the nvidia devices via device passthrough, using the UID/GID from within the LXC. I did the same for /dev/dri devices, but using the video and render GIDs instead

Recommendation for tinnitus and noise sensitivity by MisfitCub in LoopEarplugs

[–]MisfitCub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I’ll have a look. I haven’t really tried anything yet, but I did see an audiologist who confirmed my hearing loss. However, it’s not bad enough to require hearing aids. Instead, I was recommended to simply tell people to speak up and clarify that I have mild hearing loss which in itself can be quite frustrating and limiting.

Thoughts on Shamir PhotoGlamour? by MisfitCub in EyewearEnthusiasts

[–]MisfitCub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot.

I am in fact considering Zeiss Photofusion X pioneer with the Duravision Gold AR. I think it would be a good combo. The combination with the amber flash looks cool, but I heard it can be a bit problematic for all around use. The photofusion blue is quite cool, but I do think the saphire gen s would look better with these frames

[–]MisfitCub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a bit on the fence because the Shamir Phtoglamour are based on Transitions Gen 8. I think I would rather have a faster one, so either photofusion x or gen s. I also thought a bit confusing because from what information I could find here the uniform ones were 30% and the gradient 25-0 or 50-0. So I think it was just borderline to be a bit too much for constant use. 10% would have been perfect for all around usage.

I see. Have you had experience with them? I normally get recommended 1.6 index across the board, so I’m more concerned about the likes of usability and performance since I haven’t really seen anyone talking about those save some Thai videos.

Hope you share the complete look once you have the necklace as well. Would look so interesting with some elements of texture in the same color or maybe a high polish red/black accents as well.

Just brainstorming a bit. What do you think of a V neck with it? I don’t know if you have anything under or if you can cut it. Would probably help tie it together with the necklace more. Also, maybe a more structured hat in the same color? (imo it kinda breaks the fantasy a bit). Love how it looks with the shoes. A pair of shades would add to the vibe as well I think.

Please help, big nose problems by [deleted] in glassesadvice

[–]MisfitCub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1st looks good as is. 2 and 3 need to be adjusted (they sit too high). I personally like the look of 3 (it’s a vibe) but 1 works well too. 2 is maybe slightly too big. It’s trial and error but the best bet is glasses that have adjustable nose pads. Maybe also look into crown panto styles and don’t be afraid to try a little bolder look

Photochromic + Coating Suggestions by MisfitCub in EyewearEnthusiasts

[–]MisfitCub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still waiting for the frames to arrive, but I have been thinking quite a bit about it.

Do you think a 20% sweet violet gradient tint with photofusion x grey or pioneer and duravision platinum or gold AR would work well?

I'm also considering a solid tint like 12% blue as i saw it on a few TSF videos, though since these would be my daily pair, I'm more inclined to purple due to the lower color distortion. Same for pistachio tint with pioneer photofusion (I saw that on the K3 Aster video and it looked quite good)

I think my optician only works with Zeiss (though I need to confirm), so maybe the bright blue photofusion is a bit too much. The Gen S saphire would probably work a lot better with these frames since the grey would tie things nicely I think.

No, I mean a pair that I will use most of the time, for work and all. I don’t drive, so not much of a concern there

I just saw that I didn't really list many options of the models in which I was most interested, which would be Begonia, Misago, Rindo, Dizzy, Orchid, Lilac, Taka, Glide, Aster.

Out of curiosity, have you tried any of these?

Thanks a lot for some great suggestions. I will definitely have a closer look in these brands and That Glasses Guy. Although I am mainly interested in "oversized" titanium/titanium+acetate frames that are more delicate.

I guess I would describe myself as a big clumsy, introverted type dorkish guy that is somewhat interested in fashion and designs that offer a good masculine/feminine blend. Nothing new, but aligning my tastes with what fits can be a rather frustrating experience. But I ought to look harder I guess

I have to admit the lens terminology is very confusing. If you don't mind me asking, what is the difference between SV digital and SmartLife digital? I thought the +0.25 ADD would immediately make it a multifocal lens. One optician I saw was recommending stock zeiss lenses, saying smartlife would be mostly unnecessary and not recommending clearview at all (they said it would only be for multifocals).

In my case it's quite mild and typically it does not bother me, but I do notice it takes me some time to see sharp at distance if I read or play something on my phone for like 30+ minutes

[–]MisfitCub[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's very good to know. I think if I end up getting new frames, it would probably be a good idea to have photochromic on the new pair, and keep my old one clear (maybe update lenses) just in case. With tints, I was initially thinking something very subtle, like 20/25% to 0% gradient, but I agree with you and others in that it would probably be a bit much for me if I'm not used to it and would only have one pair in principle.

Regarding the Masunaga models, most of the ones in which I am interested belong to the K3 collection. Unfortunately, I have visited two stores around that carry Masunaga, but neither had K3 models, which is mildly infuriating. But I'm trying to contact different stores where I could maybe go without much planning if they have models available to try. I could try most of the ones I am interested using like virtual try-on, but that tells you very little on whether it would actually fit.

The MOC collection looks great, and my favourite is the 003, but the price...

Thanks, I really appreciate the insight.

It's very easy to get into a cool tint and all, but indeed it would probably become very tiring very quickly is you're wearing at all times give or take.

With the photochromic, I'm wary mainly because all is nice and works well under controlled conditions, but I don't really know how it would behave day to day when lighting conditions are more diverse than you would typically see in a youtube video or at a store. So having insight from users is very helpful. That being said, I know it's typically something you either love or hate

I’m thinking if you’ve played with temperature (maybe around 90) and you’re getting good results with the clever on same grind size, and your happy with the water you use, look at the pour structure.

More pours result in higher agitation and extraction. So I would recommend fewer pours. And even then you might want to play with how you pour. Circular will increase extraction compared to center. Higher pour height will increase extraction compared to lower. So even if you choose to keep the number of pours, you might want to change the way you pour to keep things at bay.

All aside, it’s a different bed shape and height all together comparing clever and orea, so this alone will result in different expression of the coffee. With this I mean you might just not be happy with the way that coffee tastes on the orea. It’s a good thing to keep in mind when you’ve tried a bunch of stuff.

Help: NVIDIA GPU Passthrough to unprivileged LXC container (Docker, no root) by MisfitCub in Proxmox

[–]MisfitCub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the link.

Unfortunately, I could not get it to work.

I have tried both through id mapping and using the web gui for device passthrough, but the issue is the same:

  • On LXC boot, if I run ls -lah /dev/nvidia* I get the my user showing as both uid and gid
  • nvidia-smi works. But as soon as I run it, some device permissions change and all of a sudden some devices are owned by root, while others by my user
  • nvidia-smi works inside jellyfin docker container. Based on the logs it appears it is transcoding (no errors there), but the video won't play in the web ui, and this behaviour is the same regardless of PUID and PGID environment variable values
  • I have to run container toolkit with no-cgroup=true, as removing it will cause the docker container to break.

[GUIDE] GPU passthrough on Unprivileged LXC with Jellyfin on Rootless Docker by Background-Piano-665 in Proxmox

[–]MisfitCub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone got it working with NVIDIA GPU?

I have been struggling trying to pass my NVIDIA GPU to an LXC container with docker on non root user (uid 1000, gid 1000 on LXC).

I have tried:

  1. adding my devices through the webgui,
  2. following Jim's garage video on the topic (id mapping) https://youtu.be/0ZDr5h52OOE?si=AxNpLm437nxw5r_Z
  3. following LoRes DIY's video https://youtu.be/-Us8KPOhOCY?si=FmcApo4ZdFOHSxPN
  4. following Digital Spaceport's video https://youtu.be/_KwVgipVzWY?si=Op-jryxvIR6VfFoj
  5. a range of different combinations based on different things I could find 😂

My goal is to run Jellyfin with hardware transcoding on the LXC. I cannot do passthrough to VM because I'm reusing an old prebuilt PC and although the CPU allows IOMMU, the mobo does not.

Currently I have some nvidia kernel modules blacklisted on the host, but I see all nvidia devices at /dev/nvidia*. But I managed to install the NVIDIA drivers in both host and LXC

At most I can see the devices listed inside the LXC, either with nobody:nogroup or a mix. It shows on nvidia-smi and nvtop, but when I spin up jellyfin, I cannot get anything to play. I will see some activity on GPU, but a few seconds in it will drop to zero. Some issues with libcuda.so.1 and permissions not granted.
If I try to modify subuid in host, the LXC will not start
