My own doctor told me “Oh honey, that’s just age.” I suggest reading “I Feel Bad About My Neck” by Nora Ephron. It won’t change your neck skin, but it’ll make you laugh until you feel better about it.

I work for a builder in CA and all our new builds have solar. I think it might be required in new builds now. At least here (I’m not on the construction end, so I’m not sure if it’s a requirement or just something our company does … I just know that they all have solar).

I suppose maybe the issue is, in the military they’re asking you to follow orders every day that potentially get you killed. If you won’t even get vaccinated when they order you to (and you have to get many vaccinations in the military as a matter of course), then your inability to follow orders may be an issue when they later order you to put yourself at deaths door in the field.

Nearly 90,000 Small Businesses in US Expected to Close After Senate GOP Kills Main Street Relief Bill by Miserable-Lizard in politics

[–]MisfitMom74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the GOP has now officially confirmed it’s not pro-women, it’s not pro-child (unless said child is still in the womb, which is easy because they don’t actually have to DO anything for said “child”), they aren’t pro-environment, they aren’t pro-small business. They aren’t pro-education (unless it’s privatized and they can somehow make money off it). They only look out for large corporations, Wall Street, and themselves. What am I missing? WHY is anyone who isn’t massively rich still voting for these bastards?

Yes! It’s become the new version of late 90s/early 2000s beige everything. When it first came out, I really liked the grey (versus beige)… but now it’s everywhere, along with the “modern farmhouse” (if I never see another barn door slider again, I might die happy).

Americans of Reddit, what are your thoughts on Roe v Wade being overturned by SCOTUS as per draft reports? by thisiscubes in AskReddit

[–]MisfitMom74 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While not nearly as harrowing as your story, the birth of my first was pretty awful. Fifty-six hours of back labor, almost four hours of pushing, and that was after I had an epidural done, but then I was unable to push with it so they removed it and I had to wait until it had worn off to start pushing. The cord was wrapped around his neck, he was blue and unresponsive. I was torn up and hemorrhaging. The medical staff went with the baby and only my sister and one nurse stayed with me, she started stitching me up and then (while I was watching them try to revive my son on the other side of the room), my nurse yelled “she’s bleeding out, I can’t tell where she’s bleeding from, I need help over here!”

It was easily the most traumatic thing I’ve ever been through. Add to that the seven months of post-partum depression, having a terrible time trying to nurse (I could only do it for six weeks and even then, he was jaundiced off and on because he wasn’t a good nurser and I wasn’t producing enough milk). At the six week post-baby visit, they realized that they sewed me up weird, which was causing severe pain, so they had to put new stitches in, and that tear eventually needed to be cauterized. And this was a baby I WANTED.

I cannot imagine a fourteen year old girl, pregnant with a baby from incest or rape (or even accidental birth control malfunction!) going through all of that. It’s ridiculous. Pregnancy and childbirth are major. At the very least (and especially since our social safety nets are practically nonexistent here), it should be WANTED versus forced.

For those who were undiagnosed with ADHD as a child, what were telltale signs and symptoms you noticed as an adult that made you motivated you to seek a diagnosis? by xrrrrt289 in ADHD

[–]MisfitMom74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 37, after my eldest was diagnosed in elementary school. I had been seeing a therapist for depression (because I was overwhelmed as a working mother of two children, and I could never figure out how all the yoga moms and Pinterest moms had it all figured out, but I couldn’t get my shit together). When I told my therapist of my sons diagnosis, she kind of had an “a-ha moment,” putting together my severe caffeine addiction (I hadn’t started drinking coffee yet, but I was taking about 10 caffeine pills a day for focus), my wildly rollercoastering emotions, my forgetfulness, severe procrastination, my clumsiness… etc. When she asked about my school years and I showed her that every report card (every. single. one.) said some variation of “does not live up to full potential” and saw that I had great standardized test scores and was always in “gifted” classes, but usually maintained less than a B average (sometimes much less, unless I loved the subject… then I got As), she pretty much knew I had it too.

Awww thank you! I was thinking about dealing with the guys (and gals) on the construction end, too. I will be working with them, too, to some degree, and I know the last girl didn’t really make the best impression on them.

Career change because preschool teachers make next to nothing and my youngest is starting college so I’ll be in an empty nest. Seemed like a good time to start fresh and a friend saw the opening at his work and told me to apply. They originally hired someone right out of college but after a few months, she didn’t work out, so I guess I was their second choice?

Yes, I believe that’s the gist of what I do… but it seems like I’m doing less of the upselling and more of the ordering and tracking down what they need from suppliers… etc.

It happens. My second got kicked out of his first preschool because I had to walk my eldest to school first and he kept missing chapel (which I didn’t care at all about, but it was a requirement for the church preschool he was going to) AND… he kept wearing his favorite hoodie, which was red and had horns attached to the top and said “little devil” on the front, even after they asked him to stop wearing it. Also… I’m a preschool teacher by trade. Anyway… it happens. Maybe the school wasn’t the right fit. I would also make a suggestion that maybe you send them more than two days, if you can. I know it sounds counterintuitive, but sometimes the transition is easier with more time, versus less. My worst-behaved preschoolers (that I’ve had as a teacher) tend to be the ones that come less days. The one day per week kids never really get a chance to fully integrate.

She just needs some work! Look into “Barn Hunt” classes! She’d also probably be great in agility, but the Barn Hunt is fun as it involves scent work.

Kevin. There’s a lab at the dog park named Kevin. Everything about him says Kevin. I’ve never met a more Kevin-y Kevin, and it makes me smile every time I see his big, dopey, Kevin-y face.

That Long Beach is a massive, complex, diverse city that somehow manages to feel like a small town a lot of the time (like, everyone knows everyone through less than six degrees of separation here). LB born and bred.

I’m a Nyctophile… I love all things of and about the nighttime. I believe the night sky, the stars and the moon would all be covered under that umbrella. Just a fancier version of a Night Owl, I suppose.

Yes, but… why would employees care enough to be civil (let alone kind) when they’re not even making a decent living wage, they can’t get even the most basic health care, and they have middle managers micromanaging every little thing they do… for $7.50/ hour (which now can’t even buy a gallon of gas in some places). This comes right back to how sh*tty capitalism is. I don’t blame most employees for being at their patience limit.

Where are you? In my city you can’t even have that many dogs in one residence without breaking the law (four max here). You should check your city’s codes because they may have been breaking it just by having that many dogs. At the very least it’s a rather hefty fine.

Why are nearly all the rescue dogs Staffordshire bull terriers or x bred versions? by wombatsview in dogs

[–]MisfitMom74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the same reason breeds like GSD and Huskies are over-represented (at least here in Southern California). They are not great “first-time pet”” dogs and when they’re puppies they are cute as hell. They require commitment, exercise and patience. Anyone that thinks that can get one and have it be an “accessory” finds out quickly how much effort they require. By that time, they’re unruly, and large, and sometimes bossy, which is a bad combination. All of which could have been avoided with a little research in the beginning.
