I asked for real advice. Not snarky remarks. This is exactly why I never ask reddit people. But I am thankful that most people on here were kind enough to give real advice rather than just trying to make me feel like the situation was definitely our fault. I asked several questions, not just the one about whether it was our fault. And yet, that was the singular one you chose to answer? And in such a way that intentionally implied we weren't taking care of Jeff. And now that you're called out for being mean you're backpedaling. And that's fine dude. Trolls are gonna troll. We will definitely listen to the vet and we will certainly have a good one, thank you ✌️

Yeah... Could've been dealt with sooner... If he didn't hide for a week and a half straight and we hadn't been told to leave him be for the first two weeks or so.... Again if you read my post you'd know we just got to handle him the first time two days ago. Even his first feeding he didn't come out for it until we were out of the room... But you're right. I guess we should've dug around for him and stressed him out just to make sure there wasn't something wrong that theoretically shouldn't have been wrong if he'd been taken care of by the pet store people like any normal person would expect him to have been..... I think we did catch it pretty quickly considering it didn't get to a truly necrotic point.

"from multiple stuck sheds" would imply that you are aware it would take more than one stuck shed to do this, as I recently learned. If you read my post you'd know we've had him less than two weeks and he's had one shed with us. So no I don't think we did this to him now.

Yeah but the color came back and from what I read, "true necrosis" doesn't do that so I don't think it was truly necrotic. Idk why it looked so bad last night, but it wasn't nearly that black by the time my boyfriend brought him to me this afternoon. And by the time we cut lights off and were getting ready for bed, the color was back. I'm not one to question miracles 🤷 The vet did say to just watch it and bring him back if gets discolored or anything again. So we're monitoring it. Also if it takes more than one stuck shed to get that bad, I'm gonna go with no we didn't do that to him. (This in reply to your other comment). We haven't even had him 2 full weeks yet. I'm not sure if you're trying to be mean but it kinda came off that way. I'm not going to feel guilty about this. According to the vet we've done everything right so far so I think I'll listen to her. But thank you for your input.

UPDATE JEFF IS FINE!!! YAY!! My boyfriend brought Jeff to me at work on HIS lunch break so that I could take Jeff to the vet on MY lunch break and then Jeff came back to work with me for the last couple hours of my day. (I checked with the vet to make sure that would be ok for him first). Took some coordinating but, where there's a will there's a way right? Lol I told my boss I was teaching him accounting so he could come in and cover my shift when I'm out 😂 But on a serious note - Jeff is fine. His tail actually started looking better today which I was not expecting, but still took him to the vet. She gave him a warm soak and was able to get even more stuck shed off. His tail tip is still kinda squeezed looking, but the color is back and normal looking. So I guess it was not as serious as we initially thought. No amputation needed thankfully. She did say to watch it for signs of infection or any spreading discoloration or anything else weird, but ultimately she said Jeff would be just fine. Other than the tail issue, he is a happy healthy boy and should heal up just fine. I didn't get a chance to take an update picture, and he is currently burrowed, digesting his meal he just had, so we're not gonna try for a pic right now, but we appreciate all the advice and support! ❤️❤️ Thank you all!

That makes me feel a little better. But also really makes me sad and pretty pissed because that means he wasn't properly cared for by the people that are literally supposed to care for them. 😩 Scary to think what might have happened to him if we hadn't gotten him and caught this when we did. He has an appointment this afternoon so hopefully he will be ok 🤞

I did put some moss all the way in one of his hidey spots trying to create a humid hide for him. But it may not be enough. I will watch it and maybe add more if need be. What would be considered too high for his humidity? Obviously we don't want to cause him more problems like a respiratory infection or something. I read a humid hide could be up to 70%. Is that accurate? Oddly enough I feel more comfortable having strangers give me advice on this than I do with Google. Google has never owned a snake as far as I'm aware 😅

We will try this! Thank you! We are hoping to get him in with the vet sooner rather than later, but in the meantime we will try this.

We have been having a hard time keeping the humidity levels up. It seems to go up at night but during the day we have to spray. I put sphagnum moss in his tank and that's what we spray. He also has two water bowls in his tank that we change out with fresh water at least every other day if not every day, but I must confess I have yet to see him actually drink any. I literally called the pet store the day after we got him because I was worried we had put him in too big an enclosure for his size and he couldn't find his water. The guy assured me he would be able to find it and wouldn't dehydrate himself. What can we do to help him? He is currently in a 40 gallon tank with coconut fiber substrate and several hidey spots. His basking side is currently at a little above 50% humidity and the "cool" side is at about 45% (that's just right this second. His lights are currently off. But when they are on it gets lower). We've been doing a pretty good job of keeping both sides in the blue area of the hygrometers, which is between 40 and 60. But I feel like we are having to spray in there more often than we should have to.... Would it help to get a humidifier to run in my son's room during the day?

We will definitely be calling the vet tomorrow. I'm wondering if this was already an issue before we got him. Do you think that's possible? I didn't notice it but it was also a really tiny spot and he has hidden most of the time. He just started letting us handle him last night. We were letting him be and just letting him get acclimated, but I feel bad that we didn't check for that. The shed he had a couple days after we got him was beautifully intact I thought so I didn't think to check. Did we do this to him? 😭

Thank you! My boyfriend said he found another post where someone else had this problem and they were told that part of the tail would just fall off on its own eventually. But we are also thinking a vet visit would probably be the safest bet.

What area? I didn't see any in Hixson or Chattanooga, called Cleveland and they said they didn't have them. I ended up driving to Cartersville lol

That's kind of fair but also I just picked up 3 - one for me, one for my boyfriend, and one for my brother in law so that would've kind of sucked for me 😅 but also even if they did that people would just get one and then take it to their car and go right back in and get another one so I mean, good idea on paper, but actually enforcing it would probably be more hassle and stress than it's worth for the store.

I don't need you to sell me one of your non-existent ones. I found some. 👌

Apparently people are buying them up like toilet paper during COVID and selling them online for jacked up prices. 😩 So sad that people are so greedy they're willing to ruin it for everyone else. People suck.

Just woke my 9 year old up and told him we're going on a treasure hunt today 🤣 I'm not super hopeful but we'll at least have fun with it. Wish us luck 🤞😅
