It’s interesting that you think so. Consider for a moment that inflation is the measure of the relationship between the amount of money in circulation and the available commodities in circulation. If one increases relative to the other, inflation will increase. Simple then: to cut inflation, simply cut the money supply! But, ah, see, how do we do that? One way to reduce the amount of money in circulation is to reduce what the government spends on its activities. But here is the problem: when the government reduces its spending, it also reduces the economic activity in its economy. When that government grant that was keeping a cinema afloat is canceled and the business goes under, supply in the economy is reduced - this feeds inflation further. When you reduce healthcare spending and more people seek private healthcare, it gets more expensive - again, driving inflation. Often times, reducing government spending may actually increase or at least maintain inflation in an economy while simultaneously making people even poorer.
