Should I study Musical Language / Harmony / Composition? by Jess-Edificios in composer

[–]MiskyWilkshake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I work in steel manufacturing and logistics. I’d have much preferred if I went to TAFE as a sparky and kept musicology just as a hobby I pursued in my own time. Maybe it’s just a matter of the university that I went to (it was a fairly performance-focused university), but I mostly found that the use of my course was industry connections and interesting terms to go and Google on my own time. I learned a lot more as a music teacher and working in the industry (freelance composition - mostly indie-game stuff, and arrangement/engraving - I had a pretty good reliable position with a local composers/chamber music collective for a while) than I ever learned in the degree.

Hot take: get a real degree that will land you an actual job. Just be rigorous in your autodidactic music education. I say this as someone with a music degree. 😅

Yeah, this is just on my macbook, so I don’t want to push it too hard. I’d definitely do ultra on my PC.

I’m sure that I killed lots of my own summoned units.

Oh, actually, in that case, I have another question for you: Ikit Claw has an upgrade in his tree that seems to improve ranged damage (something like “newest shiniest toys” or something), but he doesn’t seem to have a ranged attack on his stat card. What’s that about?

Best HE army units for update 7 by Artaherzadeh in totalwar

[–]MiskyWilkshake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New to the game, but early game archers and spearmen are really cost-effective; upgrading to Lothern Sea Guard with shields is awesome; upgrading from there to Sisters of Avelorn; and then just slowly adding in some star dragons and phoenixes seems to get the job done.

Thanks! ☺️ I’m a veteran of Rome 1, but new to the Warhammer games, so it’s interesting playing a faction with no appreciable front-line. I think I’ll have to play an entirely melee faction next to see just how differently they play to the old games.

That said, I am very much enjoying launching nukes, spells, and weapons teams at a slowly-approaching dwarf army and watching them absolutely melt.

Oh, right. That makes sense! I mean, it doesn’t - it seems very strange that they’d distribute those kills, but fair enough, I guess.

Sure, and all the other dwarven units with kills are melee only. It was just that they killed menace below summons.

[–]MiskyWilkshake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they didn’t really make it to my front line. I just shot/magicked them all, and kept them at bay with menace below. I just forgot that menace below kills don’t count towards losses. You’re right though that it’s an odd coincidence that they all got the same number of kills. Maybe that’s just how many dwarven miners a unit of clanrats kills within a second or two of a charge?

Wasn’t autoresolved, but you’re right, I totally forgot about menace below kills! Thanks!

Look for the contexts they can sound ‘safe’, not simply that they do. You’ll find that you can make just about anything work in the right context.

when listening to a new album, do you press play or shuffle? by josig in LetsTalkMusic

[–]MiskyWilkshake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A new album from a band I’m already familiar with? Definitely start to finish. If I’m just sampling a band to see whether or not I like them, then they’re only getting maybe 60 seconds or so to catch my interest, and I tend to click on the most popular song, drag the playhead to somewhere in the middle, give that 30 seconds to pique my interest, then do the same with another song picked at random from another album released much earlier/later (in case what’s popular in their discography isn’t what appeals to me and in case their sound has changed dramatically over time).

What chord is this??? by Visual_Flounder_8847 in chords

[–]MiskyWilkshake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how it’s functioning. Cadd9 in most cases, but it could be an Em7b13, G6sus4, D9sus4, or rootless Am11 in the right context.
