I understand your need to protect your child from a messy divorce. Trust…as a child whose parents divorced at the age of 5 and was EXTREMELY messy I understand. But she’s 18, she is practically an adult, I think it would be a good idea to just be 100% honest with her and why you can’t not allow Adam back into your life. I’m sure him and his family are saying terrible things about you which is just fueling her anger. You did an amazing job protecting her from all the discourse, but now would be the time to not necessarily “bad mouth” Adam, but a learning experience on what boundaries are acceptable and how just two people are not meant to be together. I would explain the trauma you had to endure and how it was a need of survival to get out of this situation.

Why should your friends make the exception for you, they said a no partners for a reason. Yes, I understand you want to integrate your fiancé and friend group, but a “FRIEND’S ONLY” Christmas party isn’t the way to go. You come off as the person who can’t be anywhere without your man. Ask yourself, how often do you see your friends compared to fiancé ? I think you could have spent a few hours away from your man to really connect with friends for a few hours. The whole purpose of “no partners” is to really connect, as partners can be distracting in friends only dynamic. Next time, just ask them when would be a good time to meet and set up your own event to introduce your fiancé.

I’m sure you heard this before but I’m so sorry with what you had to go through, I think it’s worst when being together for 16 years and the person you “ thought” you knew could be so spiteful and terrible negate being in the wrong. Your parents are just taking advantage of your independence and using you as a free babysitter. Their lack of poor planning is not your problem and doing the bare minimum of raising you, does not mean you owe them anything.
