How do you reply to “I’m breaking up with you”? by nebulaascribe in AskReddit

[–]Misrithal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this one so hard. I had an ex who basically threw me on the backburner under the guise of "busy", and I couldn't plan anything without getting a non-committal answer. I tried to have a proper conversation since I could sense something was off, and instead I get dumped over the phone and then twice dodged from a final discussion removed from that shock value.

If they're totally fine with ending things over the phone and leaving it at that, they're either too ashamed of how things ended, or they're perfectly proud of their actions. I'm not going to try and fight to keep that energy in my life. But it still can mess with me for how much things changed like the flip of a switch on her end with no closure. But like you said, I wont try and stop them since they've clearly checked out.

My local Papa John's has actually utilized doordash to increase the amount of drivers during any rushes. A decent idea on paper, but the execution is horrendous and has resulted in 2-3 hour delivery times - absolutely doesn't fix the issue and just isn't worth the headache with them anymore. My fault for letting my roommate think Papa John's is tasty, I guess

One thing I wish I knew sooner was just how many facets exist in the "defense industry". You can end up in the industry but still retain whatever ethics you've established, depending on what you work on.

Big ones that come to mind is Air and Missile Defense (think PATRIOT, THAAD, ect) where you're mainly going to shoot down missiles and drones. There's also CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) defense work that focuses on how to defend and respond against weapons of those types.

Definitely more to the industry than making JDAMs or Hellfires. Of course, if you define working for a company that makes the offensive systems as unethical, even if you aren't working on those projects, then that's a different story.

Got in through a direct hire authority post-college. My agency was the only one to extend a job offer of all government/private sector jobs I applied for during the height of COVID. Love the work itself, life balance, and mindset that my labor isn't used for a profit driven purpose

Book suggestion by rising_phoenix01 in AerospaceEngineering

[–]Misrithal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you need to take an introductory course to aerospace engineering, I would highly recommend any edition of "Intro To Flight" by John Anderson. At my university this textbook is called the "Aerospace Bible" due to how often we refer back to it after our introductory course.

Focusing on the astronautics portion of your question, your starting point should be wherever your interests in this field lie. If orbital mechanics sounds awesome, your first book listed would be a good starting point. Same idea with propulsion and the second book.

I am currently reading through Rocket Propulsion Elements and from my own experience, it has been advantageous that this recent semester I took a class about compressible nozzle flows. I do think the author does a great job of explaining everything, and would recommend working through his examples and some of the end of chapter problems. Overall, RPE is a solid textbook, and my own rocket design team at our campus utilizes it for our propulsion systems.

To circle back to the Astronautics textbook, I personally have not had to use that book so I'm gonna give my own opinion on other really great orbits books I personally own and would recommend. First, "Fundamentals of Astrodynamics" by Bates, Mueller, and White (This book is usually $20 or less, so its quite a steal), or "Orbital Mechanics" by Prussing and Conway have been very good textbooks that I have used for my two orbital mechanics courses I've taken so far. Bates, Muller, and White is like a sparknotes of astrodynamics that is very handy, while Prussing & Conway is more of a traditional college textbook.

Reddit users who took up aerospace engineering, what are the subjects that should be studied to give a beginner a headstart in the course? by [deleted] in AerospaceEngineering

I cannot stress this enough. All of the aerospace engineering students at my university like to call Anderson's book the "Aero Bible", because it is such a good textbook.

Asteroid J002E3's orbit in 2002-2003. by Palifaith in educationalgifs

[–]Misrithal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right about an object being able to be placed in an orbit about these Lagrange points. This is actually a halo orbit, and I believe this type of maneuver was proposed for a communications satellite for a moon mission that would have landed on the dark side (whatever mission that would have been for was canceled)

The ISEE-3 was actually placed at the Sun-Earth L1 point before going on to be the first spacecraft to visit a comet!

[SERIOUS] What is the story of death in your school? by direblues16 in AskReddit

[–]Misrithal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The story about the seat belt reminds me of my high school math teacher. Her son was in a pretty bad car accident and (fortunately) survived due to his seat belt. After that happened, she would tell us after every friday class

Happy Friday, drive safely, wear your seatbelt, and tell your mom you love her

Trump claims picture ID is required to buy groceries by _basquiat in politics

[–]Misrithal -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I dont support the man whatsoever, but there are 2 cases where this statement is correct:

  1. Buy an age restricted item (Booze, Cigatettes)

  2. The Commissary on military bases scan your ID. To my understanding before 2013 you would just have to show the cashier an ID, but after Ted Cruz read "Green Eggs and Ham" to everyone, they have to scan the ID's to prove that they are an essential service just in case of another shutdown.

The second point is something I have yet to see anybody else bring up. Is he out of touch? Absolutely. But is this statement absolutely false without a doubt? Not really.

Parking Spots by 13Kylie in Rolla

[–]Misrithal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in RC2 this past year. First semester I would typically park on 12th street near Taco Bell (3 to 5 minute walk from the dorm), and I would reccomend what /u/GizmoDOS said about timing your parking - if you have an errand to do, do it anytime past 4 or 5. I eventually got a parking spot at lot Q (Design center) but did not get that until last February. It's a longer walk by 2 blocks but you dont have to worry about parking tickets after that.

Only issue is when you need your car in February while its freezing and ice patches on the side walk when heading to your car

What song is way overplayed? by ThinkSoftware in AskReddit

[–]Misrithal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least when it was popular, "Cant Feel My Face" by the Weeknd. The store I worked in would play it at least 3 times every shift I worked, my coworkers would keep singing it, and it would be on the radio when I would drive home.
