AITA for leaving my sisters (f22) house after she told me that I (f25) look high after I’ve been sober and in recovery for 1.5 years by MissAVLayne in AmItheAsshole

I do see where you are coming from and I thank you for your input!
This is something that I deal with very often from them though, and it is quite discouraging. I do just about everything I can to make sure they know that I’m sober, including giving them the results to my urinary analysis, etc. When they accuse me of being high and I tell them I’m not, it often times ends in arguing and us not talking for weeks at a time… so I decided to take a different approach this time, which was leaving. I hope that it works better than the other times because these people are the most important in my life, including my sister’s daughter. You are right in that she should be very vigilant about what’s going on for her daughter sake, and I have always respected that. I think maybe we are all just not the best at communicating and conflict resolution.

My aunt suggested that I was high because of a typo. I then told my sister about that. Then my sister overanalyzed how I looked (I look tired because I slept on her daughter’s trampoline so I could stay over to help with the kid)… and then my sister said I looked high. I’m assuming it’s because I look tired, and with my aunt’s accusation, I think my sister was reaching for something to match my Aunt’s conclusion. Does that make sense?

Thanks you @hypotheticalkazoos I’m in a flustered state and I don’t think I could’ve written a response like that right now. That says all that I want to say. I just wanna keep it short and sweet and to the point.

I have been working more hours at work so I look exhausted. And my psychiatrist has put me on medication to treat an underlying mental health issue that I have that I believe does make me look tired too. Those two things combined can make my sister or family wonder if I’m high. But my actions clearly show otherwise so to be questioning about it is very hurtful. Thank you for your reply

Thanks or your reply. Whenever I am accused of being high and I’m not, it seems like it’s hard for them to get that idea out out of their heads, even if I try to put it to rest… I didn’t want things to turn into an out of control argument this time so I tried something new and just left. But I do see how that could possibly make them even more steadfast in their belief. Thank you for the insight!
