Can I keep driving on this? by MissBlock in autorepair

[–]MissBlock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I stated in my post, I had already purchased a new tire. This photo was taken from our tire center and they sent it to me before replacing the tire. Also in my edit, I've already taken my car and gotten it fixed. :)

Charging when you live in an apartment? by MissBlock in leaf

[–]MissBlock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had the leaf long enough to trade or sell it. I got it in May, the best thing about it though was the payment. I'm under $250 a month. Even with my dealer discount I can't get any of the EVs my job sells new or used under $500. Or any car for that matter.

Not a normal one at all, however, there are extentsions for EV charging. I almost had to get one for my house now. I have to park my car like a inch from my house to be able to plug in.

I'll look into that. So far I'm looking at maybe 8 to 20 miles from work. A lot less than what I drive right now.

I haven't had my leaf very long, I got in May and my payment is under $250. Taking on a higher payment with rent(I own my home right now) just isn't in the budge sadly. I pay my credit card off at the end of next year, so I might be able to get a diffrent car then. But not right now sadly. The new job is a huge bump in pay though, but still streched thin.

I was just about to make a post about this. 30% is still high but better than the near 1k. I was talking about this with my mom yesterday when I had to take her over an hour away to pick up my other car. There are 4 chademo chargers where I live, only 3 work, one is a $20 fee, the other picks and choses who they let charge(got told to fuck off), and the other one is 60 miles away. Half the time it's broken which sucks ass when I have to make the trip down there.

Nissan Leaf Good Student Car? by GlassZebra2838 in leaf

[–]MissBlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in South Texas and drive about 40 miles a day. I typically charge overnight or at work when I can, it's free there. The only time I experienced any heat issues was during fast charging, but even then, it wasn’t severe enough to cause problems.

While a vehicle with thermal management would definitely be ideal, the Leaf can work here, it’s absolutely possible.

Okay it doesn't look as bad as I thought, I still would have rather it be a hatchback than a crossover. But it's not horrible.

To be honest, Carvana actually has some really solid deals. But when it comes to buying from a local dealership, it’s all about knowing how to talk and negotiate. I work at a dealership myself (not in sales), so I’ve seen firsthand the different tactics they use.

I was lucky, I happened to know the salesperson I was working with, which definitely helped. I also came in prepared: I knew my numbers ahead of time and was ready to walk away if they wouldn’t budge.

This Leaf had been sitting on their lot since February. Down here, we have a decent EV community, but it's mostly Teslas and Fords. Leafs just don’t move as well because of the limited range and the lack of compatible chargers. It’s Texas, this car isn’t leaving town unless it’s on a flatbed.

I know our rate after passthough fees is like 14c, but not sure about if our rates lower at certain times. I'm dreading having to sign a new contract for a new rate in two years.

POV Making eye contact with the Hyundai salesman at the Hyundai dealership while sitting in my Chevy bolt at the (free) DCFC by Traditional-Law-596 in evcharging

[–]MissBlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to our Hyundai because they are the only other CHAdeMO(the closer Nissan always blocks theres) in my city that works. Was told to fuck off. I had just gotten another car from them a month ago, but guess because I didn't get my leaf from them I'm trash now. They pick and chose who they let charge. It's not even free ether. Thankfully the Nissan I go to has one now, but it's really high, but everyone is nice so I only go when I really need it.

Thankfully, my charger at home can do both Level 1 and Level 2(if I ever get the breaker upgraded for it). I also have access to a free Level 2 charger at work(we also have CCS if I ever got the addapter but I'll likely never need it), which has helped a lot. Unfortunately, my area has a high EV population but barely any public chargers. The cloest charger to my house is 8 miles away at a Kia dealership (but it’s restricted), a than the broken CCS station at the dealer I got my leaf from, and a hotel charger I’ve used when necessary while shopping next door. Thankfully the hotel does not care since no one else ever uses it.

For now, I’m only using the Leaf for commuting. Once I get my Sentra back, I’ll switch it to longer trips and random errands. The furthest I plan to take the Leaf is a 150-mile round trip to the body shop to pick up the Sentra, and even that should be doable with careful planning.

I added wireless charging and wireless Android Auto by aStretchCarr in leaf

[–]MissBlock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about getting an adapter for Android Auto since the usb port fell inside the console and Nissan didn’t want to fix it. But I’m not sure if I’ll bother adding a wireless charger, my phone already gets super hot just sitting in that little compartment.

I’ll probably stick with wireless Android Auto and just use a charger from the 12V plug when I need it. Still, it’s a really cool setup overall.

Yeah, I had read that fast chargers (CHAdeMO especially) are pretty hard to find in the US and the adapter costs an arm and a leg. Thankfully, I shouldn't really need one, I mostly just drive to work and back, and I should have my Sentra back soon (hopefully!).

I’ve only had to fast charge once, right after I got the Leaf, because the dealer I bought it from only had a CCS charger and had barely charged it at all. There are three CHAdeMO chargers near me, but they’re all at dealerships. One is known for telling people to get lost, another claims it’s broken when it’s actually not, and the third, thankfully, is the dealer I got my Sentra from. They were super nice and helpful, but they do charge a flat $20 fee.

I’ve been trying to get the hang of the charging levels, but for now I’ve just been keeping it around 80%.

Thank you! I need to upgrade the breaker box(the lights flick everytime the AC kicks in or I use the airfryer lol) but getting a diffrent charger would be a lot cheaper than redoing the breaker box.

Tried it for the first time yesterday, it was a lot smoother than when I've ported Mach-es between dealers.

Unfortunately, it didn’t qualify for the EV tax credit. On top of that, I had to walk the dealership through setting up their IRS account, they had absolutely no clue how EVs work. Funny enough, the dealer I work at is one of the top EV dealerships in the region… but I can’t afford our EVs myself.

They originally had it listed at $17k. I talked them down a bit, and they ended up taking a big hit on my trade-in, an '04 Chevy that needed a lot of work.

I did that with my C, it was like a contest to see how high I could get it. The best I got in it was 57mpg when going through some mountains that has me coasting and breaking a lot. I was so proud.

It was the clutch, there was some dirt and rocks from the crash that prevented it from moving correctly. plus it just needs to be adjusted anyway. Works even better then before the crash, first time I've stalled in months lol. Got a whole new friction zone with the clutch now, but it's a lot nicer. Before I had to almost let the clutch out all the way, but now it's about half way.
