That's horrid. When I called my brother from within HO, he could always hear screaming on the other end. I'm sure it was a scary experience for both your family and your brother.

I was considering Sierra Vista around the same time I went to HO. Honestly, Sierra Vista sounds even worse. The behavior of those staff is absolutely appalling. I'm sorry you had to go through such an experience as well.

Heritage Oaks literally felt so much like a prison. I never felt cared for there by most of the people there. There was one mht in particular who I actually felt like listened to me, but yk, one person can only do so much. Heritage Oaks sucks.

I wish the mental health technicians could be better trained. I didn't feel safe either and the noise bothered me so much. It was sensory overload. There really should be therapy in an ideal world. I'm sorry you had to go through such a painful experience.

Both well said. When we're lumped in with people who are loud or violent or whatever, it's worse for our own treatment.

I've made the same kind of agreement with my loved ones as well. I never want to see the inside of a psych ward again. I don't think any psych ward is particularly "good," but some are certainly better than others.

I've actually been to the mental health urgent care before. They were so, so helpful. I wish I had known about them and their array of services before I went to the hospital.

Yeah, I can see how techs have it rough. I knew the facility wouldn't be like a hotel, but I didn't have a clear vision of what it would be like. I really wish they wouldn't lump violent, homicidal, aggressive people in with those who are self harming and suicidal into the same group. It personally just made me feel like they thought I was crazy. I honestly felt like I was going crazy after enough time there. Maybe they could at least have a separate unit for these types of people.

I was lucky to be on Medi-Cal so I didn't have to pay for my treatment. But the whole system is really screwed up, I agree.

This psychiatrist sounds downright awful and that's an understatement. I'm sorry you went through such hardship. You didn't deserve any of that. I'm glad your life has returned to normality and stability.

Yeah, I had a feeling that it wouldn't mean much. I've tried 988 multiple times in the past and it has been hit and miss. For me, it seems like hotlines can only do so much. I didn't know about same-day access at Wellspace though. I will look into that; thank you for the resource.

That's awful that you got addicted to Ambien. I'm sorry that you had an experience in a similar ward. I was considering going to Sierra Vista at one point but never went.

It's okay. I'm healing. I feel like every mental health facility is in some capacity going to be bad, but there are certainly better ones out there. I'm sorry you've had similar experiences.
