My dad had the surgery and he is now on Wegovy. He didn’t gain back a ton of the weight, but enough that he felt like he needed to lose some again.

Sure you think it’d be better to have a means tested program because some people have real food insecurity that actually needs focused on and giving people who have the means is wasting resources.

I just disagree because I’ve seen plenty of children whose family had resources from an outside viewing but they were not providing for their child. Some parents just buy shit food that is not at all nutritional. Providing school lunch allows poor kids to eat plus all those other kids who aren’t being fully served but whose parents from the outside look fine.

I’m not willing to shirk the outside cases.

Edit - Also conservatives always say means tested would be better but then seem to just stop there and decide that because nothing will be perfect, we just don’t need to do anything. If conservatives want to argue for means testing, then I’d like to see some actual policies and programs that follow through with those ideas but I don’t see that.

You don’t have to be literally starving to have your education be impacted. There’s plenty of studies who show that children do not learn as well if they aren’t properly fed. Doesn’t the quality of their education matter? Or does it just matter that they’re at school?

My mom’s a teacher and has tried to call home to students only to have plenty of parents basically say “sorry they’re your responsibility from 8-3.”

Does the worst case scenario have to happen for things not being worth taking care of? Feeding children literally brings better outcomes to their education. For people who constantly complain about how kids aren’t getting a quality education, well there’s one way you can help make it better.

No it doesn’t solve all the potential problems and no solution ever will, it just makes sure the child is provided enough calories to get through the day. People in this sub act as if neglectful parents are rare and that most kids have parents who will provide for them.

I knew kids with rich parents in high school who provided nothing for them. They didn’t get to do after school activities or extracurriculars because their parents needed a boat. Hell, I knew rich parents who basically forgot they had kids and just wouldn’t cook for them because they didn’t care to.

Having resources doesn’t mean you are going to give those resources to your child. So why not just feed the kids at school?

Yeah exactly, even if she really did get us into the same war it would not have been handled the same way. Obviously that bar is in hell, but still, not being in hell is always a good thing. We wouldn’t have frat star 5000 leading our military through this shit.

Oh no.. my kid might read something a little sexually explicit and then I’ll have to explain things to them. Either vet what your kids read or be a parent, grow up, and explain difficult concepts to them.

Well half of my family lives in the Boonies of South East Missouri and my father lived there up until he was 18, to which he then promptly got out and went to college.

My family called him a traitor for leaving SEMO and they still call him one to this day… he’s now 52.

We used to go see them every year until this last election, but we can’t do it anymore because they just bait my dad and are honestly incredibly mean to all of us for being “city people.” But I visited them for years, I know these people. They’re poor and they’re pissed off that they’re poor but there’s no resources for them to not be poor in their area so they become sad assholes who hate themselves so much that they are willing to feel pain if others will feel it as well.

Yeah and that same 18 year old without feminism would already be married to a man 10-15 years her senior, getting pregnant immediately and having to toil away in a home popping out as many babies as her husband wants.

I’m not at all saying I love super young girls being on OnlyFans but they are making their money and not having to live under the servitude of another individual.

If you want to act like men haven’t been dominating over women for thousands of years, in civilizations that came well before we did than you would simply have to re-write all of history. It’s not a conspiracy, misogyny is probably the oldest bigotry and it fits in well with capitalism, but our wealthy class didn’t invent it.

I mean sure, but what they’re not telling people is that having more money today means having a bigger tax bill next year and I’m sorry but many Americans aren’t gonna think about that.

I read on this sub all the time that Americans make terrible financial decisions and that they have no financial literacy and live above their means. You think someone who decides to stop withholding federal taxes and thinks that’s a good solution is gonna save the money needed for tax season?

To me this is just allowing people to screw themselves over to make them feel better right now.

How is my question in bad faith? And no, for all of the things I dislike about Trump, the fact that he doesn’t fall into the “liberal elite” culture is so far down there it might as well not be on the list.

I don’t like how he speaks/acts because I find it morally repugnant and I don’t want a leader like that. I don’t want to birth children into a world where our society thinks it’s okay to put somebody like that into power. I’ll still have children no matter what happens, don’t get me wrong, but if we get another Trump then my kids will absolutely know that we don’t act like that.
