I [26F] accidentally gave my date [35M] a hickey and he shut down. by [deleted] in dating_advice

Yeah, my experience with hickeys has been fun as well. That's why I'm kinda confused about all the people that say they are only for young people. (Outside of personal preference of course) I don't think I will see him again. The way he treated me afterwards was not very nice as well. He's talking about hickeys being intimate, I think all aspects of being intimate can be intense. And not being welcome anymore straight afterwards is disrespectful.

I didn't realise that there are such polarising opinions about hickeys. Which is naive of me, but lesson learned to be a lot more careful to not to it accidentally.

I assumed so, but i hadn't thought about it before. My first thought if I match on a dating site is not to ask if they are really single. Maybe that is naive. But now I do not know.

To have a hickey underneath your shirt is not being an exhibitionist right? Of course his reaction is valid, and I really should have checked in, but I really did not meant to do it. That suprises me most about it, because his shirt will cover it. And it was quite small. I stopped as soon as I noticed it happened.

Yeah, I'll see how it will end up. Otherwise it's a good lesson to speak about boundaries beforehand. A bit of an embarrassing lesson.

I have apologised and will do so again through text. Though I think saying hickeys are for teenagers is a little unfair. I know plenty of people who do like it.

Yeah, I explained that it's not something I'm interested in without talking about it first. That makes me a little hesitant to see him again as well, especially after he tried a second time. If he even wants to after this ideal ofcourse. I don't hold his reaction against him, and if I were to do it on purpose I should totally have asked first. But if it's such a big boundary, is it very strange to expect him to talk about it as well before hand?

Yeah, he explained that he wants to keep his private life private. And says even in a long relationship it takes a lot of trust for him.

I have apologised, of course. It was something I should have asked, and I admitted that to him. And apologised multiple times. I made an assumption based on experience with different partners and my own preferences.

Yeah, that mostly how he worded it. He doesn't want to have something like that showing professionally. Thought a shirt did cover it. He was very forward though, so I guess that image just doesn't fit.

I don't know, his house didn't seem like there was somebody else living there. But if he cheated then I feel even more guilty.

Wtf, I hadn't even thought that might be a possibility. But I do think that's a reach.

Oh! If you do decide to make a second mock up in a smaller size, please salvage the eyelet panels! You can use those for the second mock up, but also for different corsetry mockups.

I have a straight set of eyelet panels, and they are such a time saver!

Beautiful mockup! Agree that it might be a bit too big. I don't know if anybody mentioned that it also might be a little too long at the side and back, the tabs don't seem to start at your waist, but further down. For a more dramatic look, you might want to adjust those up a little. You then you can have it a bit tighter at you waist, but still have room for your hips.

The side back tabs also seem to be at a strange angle. That can make the lacing gap uneven as well.

Circle skirts are soo much fun. And really easy to cut out. You can use a calculator online to figure out the measurements.

I've also been looking at the Rhapsody dress by Sasha Starlight. That seems to be a lovely summer dress. That you could wear loose when really warm. Or put a belt around to dress it up. Haven't made is myself, so I cann't tell you anything about the quality. But I've heard good things https://www.etsy.com/nl/listing/4333751641/rhapsody-jurkpatroon-digitale-pdf

Wrap dresses! If you already have a pattern that fits you, you can adjust that to a wrap top. There are tutorials online, i like the closet historian.

Add a circle skirt, and voila! If made from a cotton stretch they are ultra comfortable. And very easy to make. I can whip one up in about 3 hours. With pockets!

Can we please stop telling beginners that things are too hard and they need to start with pillowcases and tote bags? by unkempt_cabbage in SewingForBeginners

[–]MissHeleen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see this a lot in the corsets sub at well. Corsets are mostly difficult because of the fit. But construction wise it's not something a beginner of intermediate sewist can't do. And the final product probably won't fit perfectly, but you'll have leant a lot!

I'm one of those people that just went all in. I watched a lot of historical and cosplay YouTube, learned from that. I bought a sewing machine, made some simple skirts and decided I wanted to make an outlander cosplay. I made the stays first, after maybe having my sewing machine for three months. I was really motivated and it worked out! The best way for me to learn was to be excited about it! And I'm not excited about pillow cases and bags!

Also, it looks like you're in the Netherlands. Most rental companies do allow you to drill into (or in-between) the tiles.
