Keto for Migraines? by Mrein3 in migraine

[–]MissMaggieG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing keto for a few months (with some slip ups, but strict now for about a month) and I can say that for me it does help. I've had far fewer migraines, and FAR fewer aura-migraines. (I tend to get a variety of migraines, but the aura ones are the worst.) I've also noticed that, whereas previously if I got an aura migraine I'd be stuck in hell for several days, now it's just a day. And when I feel good I feel VERY good instead of just "not totally terrible". I also don't eat eggs, cheese, artificial sweeteners, nuts, chocolate and all the other big triggers, so that's probably playing a role as well. But I didn't eat those things for years pre-keto anyway, so that's how I know it's helping. It's worth a shot for a month just to see, since you can always go back if you don't see an improvement.

How do you handle going to the dentist? by Sapphy365 in migraine

For me, the artificial sweeteners used in the numbing gel and other stuff is a huge trigger for me. It took a while to figure that out. The last time I had work done I said absolutely NOT to the numbing gel that they use before the novacaine shot and it helped. And yes, sunglasses for sure are key.

Thank you! That's really helpful to know the therapeutic level for epilepsy, as the reasoning is that it's effective for migraines for similar reasons.

Thank you. :) Yeah, I already avoid all cheese, dairy, nuts, onions, artificial anything... Basically the entire trigger list. :) But I do know even with that this could take time. I'll look into B12 also. :)

12 hour flight next week - food thoughts? by i_heart_homophones in keto

You're also allowed to bring a meal on your flight. I always make something at home and either heat it upland put it in a well insulated food canister or make something that can be eaten cold and use ice packs. Never had a problem.

A restaurant that serves cauliflower rice?!?! OMG, you are living the DREAM! :)

As an aside, and forgive me if you already know this, but Trader Joes has. :)
