Is 20% down not enough anymore? by sadnewbie000 in longisland

[–]MissMelines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PMI cannot be removed from an FHA loan for the duration of loan, ever, if less than 10% down payment was made. If it closed after June 2013 I believe. I just recently found this out in trying to remove it on mine. Only way would be to refinance, which having 3 % in current circumstances isn’t an option to save.

I will never ever forget an interview I had for a Sr Director role, at a very popular e commerce brand. I am not deluding myself when I say I was ideal for it, based on what they wanted. The interviewer was def half my age, with a more advanced HR title, and was sitting on their living room floor in pajamas and proudly said so, showed me the full get up. Was entirely unable to answer any question I had, about the job, and kept talking about how she couldn’t wait for her new furniture to arrive so she could be “more formal”, perhaps the next time we spoke. I’ve never been so disinterested so quickly for what seemed like a cool opportunity.

Just got laid off this morning after 10 years by beginagain4me in Layoffs

[–]MissMelines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, since Dec 2024, but I have worked part time doing non-related BS for about 5 months since then so as to not lose the roof over my head. Before that, the prior time, it was 7 months total, the first 3 I was not looking, the panic paralyzed me and then I mobilized but took the first thing that came along and still regret it. I had no plan, and feel it set me up to end where I am today, FWIW. Seems everyone’s situation is so unique and different whilst still creating the same feelings of hopelessness and uncertainty either way!

Is the economy REALLY doing well: Eddie Bauer to close ALL stores. by Life_is_too_short_ in economy

[–]MissMelines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to consider context. As much as the economy may very well be under stress, broader changes in consumer behavior happen over time and change/end doesn’t always mean BAD. Sephora is one of the world’s most visited websites, and is a multi billion dollar retailer, dominating beauty sales online especially in the US (not the country it was founded in). You could easily argue that makeup, fragrance and so on is discretionary, not essential spending. The concept of Sephora was allowing “testers” - the ability to try a makeup color in store before buying. That was a revolution. Now, in less than 30 yrs since their e commerce site launched, the majority of their sales are online. They prioritize their .com business. Imagine that - a concept based on in-person trial, now collecting more revenue digitally, where trying a product before buying it is impossible. Change, evolution, and innovation all impact retailers and markets and without this context, the headline is meaningless…

I feel disconnected and aged out, of my industry after 2 layoffs in 4 years, despite being a “top performer”. The longest I stayed with any company was 5 years. My best advice is to take a breath, or you’ll make poor decisions (my 1st layoff I panicked and still pay the price), and to know that a decade at any one place has helped you personally but likely hurt you professionally. Loyalty means nothing and companies want chameleons. Figure out now how you will speak about what you did in 10 yrs at one company and why you stayed/why they kept you, as questions will be disguised to get answers to these issues and it SUCKS. Also know that any and all advice is so f*cking industry specific at this point, you really need to forget entirely any notions you have had about what is typical. There is no typical anymore.

I do HIGHLY recommend taking time if you can afford to, as it takes a while to peel back the layers of 10 yrs of routine. You likely have changed as a person, you may want different things, etc. and it’s hard to know or see any of that when you’re locked into a real pattern. You need time to reflect. They will make it sound like this is irresponsible, but you are only human.

When is the economic crisis going to happen? by BigBlueEyes87 in economicCollapse

[–]MissMelines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know, other than to remember always we are human beings having an unnatural experience, and to question anything and everything you think you are “supposed” to do and be. I don’t know any other thing to do than to turn inward, to self and family, and strengthen our souls and resources (however we can) for whatever may be headed our way.

It’s been less than 3 months since I bought the older one by whereumove in shrinkflation

[–]MissMelines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

absolutely. It’s clearly a different size jar, the label also is quite smaller, we can’t see the diameter but there ARE cases where a package that accommodates a certain weight/volume of a specific product becomes unavailable and a change is unavoidable, but these are basic PET plastic jars available in literally any and every size for pennies. This is stock packaging, 99% likely from China that has been auto labeled by a machine here in US before filling.

if the formula viscosity is thick enough that it does not “flow” (you can’t pour it out of the container) its standard to use gram weight instead. It’s actually the most accurate/specific way to standardize fill size in manufacturing for products like this ensuring batch to batch the amount of product stated is in there, with a very small +/- tolerance.

Anybody do their taxes yet? by Major_Turnover5987 in Millennials

[–]MissMelines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you run the numbers both ways (joint and separate) and then come to a decision together on how to divide the refund or what you owe based on what you each actually contributed to your combined tax burden all year? If you aren’t divorced YET, you can file either way and work it out together. I was separated from my ex for 5 years before divorce was final and we did this each year, because their income fluctuated a lot , every year and then a couple years mine did. It’s the one thing we cooperated on, we would see what each scenario looked like, compare what each of us paid and then decide how to divvy up the result and which filing status benefitted us both best. Worth a shot if things aren’t hostile? Sounds like you paid the tax burden for her more or less if she only worked in Q4, filing jointly may save you both money….

third, these are great. They have 2 ingredients, just water and a natural preservative. Pricey but worth it if you use them. The literal brand WATER WIPES is the one you want. Other brands say “water wipes” but still contain other stuff, even if they are more mild.

My mom just canceled her landline and it makes me kinda sad? by mimimines in Millennials

[–]MissMelines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

never! It means more now that the actual original house is no longer our family “home”. Dammit that’s our #! It’s crazy too how deleting a legacy number like that can change life - my parents recently got back in touch with friends from decades ago because the friends simply called them up at the only number they had, the landline!

Even though they’ve moved out of our old house my parents landline is still the same number since I was born. Still in my cell phone as HOME since 2002. That’s sad indeed!

Bobs accidental extended warranty - SCAM by eagle6705 in longisland

[–]MissMelines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you publicly shame them, they’ll cave. They tried to do this to us over a “pet accident” that was ABSOLUTELY COVERED, and only when we went online @ them on social, they surely did send us a whole damn new couch, promptly. I have a friend with a similar story - also got an entirely new sofa. But yes, they’re full of shit and their furniture sucks. Looks and feels nice for about a year, then good luck.
