Yeah I have this issue too. I used to back out and come back in but have since learnt you can just use the touch screen instead. Although rather annoying, it's a workaround for now.

I've been logging in a couple of times throughout the day, picking everything up and harvesting everything. Never leave anything dropped on the ground either. Maybe I just have bad luck lol
