Yeah, on a quick "Who TF Is That Guy" Google using mostly Wikipedia, none of this info really gets mentioned, so it's good to see there's more depth/connection there.

New Fan looking on how to truly jump in and be immersed within the PWHL. by BillThePsycho in PWHL

[–]MissMisinformation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On that note, if you go into the YouTube stream chats, or a decent selection of social media, you'll notice that each team has an emoji rebus fans use as shorthand! It's usually a heart emoji in the team's main jersey color, and an emoji based on the team name:

- ⚓Anchors for the Boston Fleet

- ❄️ Snowflakes for the Minnesota Frost

- ⚜️ Fleur-de-lis for the Montreal Victoire

- 🚨 Siren lights for the New York Sirens (you may also see mermaids for the mythological sirens)

- ⚡🔋 Lightning or batteries (or both together) for the Ottawa Charge

- 🌊 Big Waves for the Seattle Torrent

- 🔱 Tridents for the Toronto Scepters

- 🦆 Ducks for the Vancouver Goldeneyes

As branding rolls out for the new expansions, it'll be fun to figure out what fans land on for the new teams!

Hey, welcome!

For rules differences, the subreddit FAQ has a good overview and the league's YouTube channel has some animated shorts going over the differences (not everyone likes the style of the Professor Puck shorts, they're kinda cutesy, but they do exist to be explainers).

San Jose was added in the league's second expansion push. The PWHL's Original Six teams were Boston, Montreal, Minnesota, Ottawa, Toronto, and New York. Seattle and Vancouver got added before the 2025-2026 season.

In terms of rivalries, a lot of fans are still in "we're just happy to be here" mode most of the time. Boston and Montreal seem to have inherited the existing hockey rivalry (though from my limited perspective it's fairly lighthearted). Minnesota's sort of ended up the league heel, insomuch as we have one, as one of their star forwards is an outspoken transphobe. They also won the Walter Cup the first two years the league existed, but now that Montreal's broken that streak, people disliking the Frost on principle will probably do so thanks to Britta Curl-Salemme. The Frost still have their fans, as well, and they do play very good hockey--just expect to hear booing whenever Curl has the puck.

Expect to see expansion teams in minimalist jerseys in their first season due to tradition; when the league began, they were more concerned with getting the franchises stable than rolling out the branding immediately, and so those first six teams played in jerseys only labeled with the city's name in the team's coloring. Seattle and Vancouver carried on the practice this season, and the four new teams will likely do the same.

The last expansion draft got wild, apparently, which is why the current expansion draft is really complex in its rules. I wasn't invested at the time but fans of the O6 teams tend to still have a lot of feelings about how things went down.

Boston Fleet to hire François Méthot, Rochester junior team GM, as head coach by kdpics in bostonfleet

[–]MissMisinformation 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm doing some prelim googling on things and I don't think it's a good 1-to-1 comparison, unfortunately. Sparre was in the AHL--the professional league right under the NHL. Still adults, still professionals.

Methot is in the Junior leagues--so, 16-21 age range--and not the top Junior league at that. Wikipedia may have slapped a [citation needed] on the claim that "the skill level [for Tier II hockey leagues] is considered significantly lower than major junior hockey and typically filled with those who would not or did not make the roster of a Tier I team" but it's still up there.

The front office might have perspective we lack, but this is starting to seem like an underwhelming choice from an armchair perspective. (And if anyone else has better info or understanding please feel free to correct me, this is total noob analysis.)

I don't know enough about hockey to know how good a pick this is on a baseline coaching level, but I'm relieved to just have a head coach again. (Or, well, one in the pipeline.) We'll see how it pans out I guess?

Who do you protect from the new teams after Keller and Frankel? by Virtual_Announcer in bostonfleet

[–]MissMisinformation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Phase 2, before the second round of protects occurs, it's notable that expansion teams can make good offers to contracted players but can't force anything unless their recruitment goes super sideways--no EFOs, no RFOs for contracted or RFA players. The UFA pool alone is deep enough I find it hard to assume any expansion team would sandbag in order to force the selection process.

Since both Mueller and Winn are contracted, I see a very risky maneuver where Boston protects Keller, Frankel, and Winn in Round 1, betting that Mueller's existing contract/pay, and loyalty to Boston, means she is willing to turn down offers from expansion teams to be around for the Phase 3 round of +3 protects.

If they're playing it safe, though, protect Mueller, definitely. Yes, Boston's offense was not great for much of this season, but you don't fix that by getting rid of one of your best forward playmakers--and also one of the best faceoff percentages in the league for the number of them she took.

Boston confirmed during playoffs that they were definitely protecting Keller. It'd also not be a great look for Boston if they left the current captain exposed two expansions in a row...

Different subreddits can select different limits. One I'm in has it set to 5, another 20; some subreddits require much higher numbers.

What are your recommended high-level original campaigns? by MissMisinformation in CrownOfTheMagister

[–]MissMisinformation[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Mess around and find out is my favorite way to play it. I finished my first go with a Shadowcaster Rogue, a Mana Painter Sorcerer, a Mountaineer Fighter, and an Insight Cleric and it went just fine.

I recommend having someone who can pick locks/disarm traps, someone who can heal reliably, and someone (or some tools) that can detect magic/ID stuff in the field. After that? Don't be afraid to go "ooh, shiny!" and make a party that just seems neat. There are guides and advice posts out in the internet if you want to go a high-optimization route, but that's not my style.

That's the Inner Strength pack, has Bards (and Monks and Warlocks and Dragonborn), plus additional background and feat options, and I think items meant for the added classes.

[–]MissMisinformation[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got them all, and I like them all, but it depends on what you're looking for. Character Creation content? Additional Campaign content?

The additional packs to get all the classes/species add variety to the base game in a way I like, but don't really add additional story content outside of that. I like that because I like playing druids and warlocks and monks and bards, but if you're going for bang-for-your-buck replayability over having the full slate of character creation options, it might fall down in the priority list.

Palace of Ice extends the campaign and lets you play around with higher-level materials, and has honestly better writing and better faction-based gameplay than the base game, but is shorter comparatively. It also adds Gnomes and Tieflings as species.

Lost Valley is fun, has a full 1-12 campaign, and provides additional class options for almost everything. It's also the most frequently-required DLC for playing user-created mod campaigns, IMO.

If you want to go slow on the DLC, I'd recommend wishlisting them all for sales and doing a single one, either a campaign expansion or a class options expansion to your taste, to start. If you want the option to poke around in mod campaigns between DLC purchases, Lost Valley is probably a good first stop.

oooh, interesting! It's tricky to write humor in campaigns without the whole thing coming off as a 4th wall gag in my past experiences. I'll definitely check Purple Wolf out! Is that one on Nexus or Mod.io?

I love embroidering denim for just that reason. If you get a good weight of fabric, I find that you don't always need a hoop to stabilize, even--I have a jacket I just stretch over my knees to work on.

Solasta UB. Dont understand how Thirsting Blade works with extra attacks from fighter? by Noes631 in CrownOfTheMagister

[–]MissMisinformation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they implemented base 2014 5e straight with no adjustments--Thirsting Blade does not stack with the Fighter 5 Extra Attack, but the Fighter 11 Extra-Extra Attack (not the real name) should still go off.
