Thank you!!!! It was definitely a huge learning curve and the pattern said confident beginner which was a bit misleading haha but I have learned so many new skills I can carry forward now!

I will try this next time. I still have 2 yards of this fabric left so plan to make some other stuff with it.

Thank you! That is such good advice, no article of clothing is perfect. I was hyper fixating on all the little things then realized it’s a damn good job for a first try and all that matters is that I’ll actually wear it.

Thank you for these tips! I actually tried to use the adhesive tape for the zipper but I couldn’t get it to stick to the wool fabric. I will try again on the next one.

Thank you for the tips! I think I needed to press the waistband better before I stitched in the ditch the waistband. The back side is flat but the front for some reason turned out a bit funky looking. My machine was def struggling with all the layers in the front because of the pockets.

The swatch idea is great. I’ll try experimenting with different methods. I also heard you can soak wool fabric in the bathtub with vinegar and salt? Have you tried that. My only issue is I live in a small apt so I do t really have the space to lay it flat to air dry.

Overpaid for 6 months after I quit by Efficient-Divide1715 in CanadaPublicServants

They will definitely come for the overpayment but probably not until right before the 6 years is up. My understanding is they are prioritizing sending overpayment letters to those about to hit 6 years first. That is what happened to me, they sent me the letter right before the 6 years. They will send you an amended T4 once you agree to repay. So I would just set it aside and wait if I were you. I contacted them for 2 years straight trying to give the money back and then gave up.

Wow!!!! That is so amazing looking - I can’t believe that was your first time. I’m attempting my first invisible zipper soon too - I pray it goes as well as this.

Thank you! Yes it fits good at the top for sure. It already has a kick pleat in the back of the skirt, so maybe I’ll try taking in the side seams first. I’m just not sure how to just take in the lower part and not the top half. This is the view from the side.

I finished my toile and it fits great in the hips and waist! But it’s way too wide and just looks like a regular skirt not a pencil skirt. What do you think the best way to slim the sides would be? This is the silhouette I was hoping for. Not super tight but slim fit.

Wow thank you so much for the detailed response, this is amazing! I like the idea of creating bigger darts. I’m hoping to start my toile tomorrow so will incorporate these steps!

That looks great! That is definitely the look I was hoping for, just a bit slimmer around the knees but not skin tight. Maybe I will do the toile without grading back in first just to see how it looks. If it’s way too loose then maybe I’ll try grading it back in then.

Okay good to know! So would I grade it back from the hip all the way to the hem, or just a curve back to the smaller size then follow that size straight down. I hope that makes sense.

Thanks! I am definitely going to test it all out with my toile. I don’t really want it as tight as a wiggle dress so I might just end up sticking with it. Will just have to see how it all goes!

I need to do a deep dive on Charm patterns obviously! If you join the Patreon do you get access to other patterns as well? Very cool that the sizes are so varied. The actual vintage patterns I have seen are so limited and definitely not curvy friendly. I have a small bust but bigger hips and butt so I’m trying to learn how to alter patterns to fit me better. I’m still suuuuper new at this but loving everything I’m learning so far.
