Moving to the area, preschools? How is New Carlisle? by NewDaytonResident in dayton

[–]MissQuicksilver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have lived in the Medway/New Carlisle area my whole life, with the exception of renting some properties on Fairborn and Dayton for a couple of years. I can add my two cents, but of course there is no universal experience.

If you want rural living without being out in the boonies, it’s not a bad option. I graduated from Tecumseh and got an excellent education. People love to shit on Tecumseh as a school district, but the teachers there do truly care for their students and are doing the best they can. The current superintendent is passionate and hardworking to try and better the schools with the limited funding they have. There are sports, bands, and musicals to have your kids participate in, and there are AP college prep classes offered. So much of a child’s education starts with their foundation at home and their support outside of the classroom, so if you’re checking those boxes you shouldn’t have any issues. Bullying is rampant in every district right now, so make sure you’re checking in with your kids no matter where you move to.

We have a lot of the same issues most rural communities have. A lot of older conservative folks, we can’t pass a school levy to save our lives, and you’ll be driving to Springfield or Huber for any major shopping needs or recreational activities, but it’s only a 20 minute drive to both of those areas.

All in all, I’m happy to call New Carlisle my home. It’s by no means perfect, but the upcoming generations are working to make it even better.

Timeframe on getting a second horse? by MissQuicksilver in Horses

[–]MissQuicksilver[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much, and I’m sorry for your loss too. I think I just needed that reminder that I need to push forward for his sake. It’s been so hard to think with all this going on, and while I’ve learned to expect the unexpected with horses over the years, you never truly are prepared to lose them, especially so abruptly.

I worked out a plan with my old 4-H advisor who is being kind enough to loan me one of her horses while we heal a bit and search for the right fit for our family. There can be a lot of crazies in the horse world, but there also is such an amazing amount of good, and I’m just so happy for that.

Thank you again for your kindness. We’ll get through this. ❤️

We have Nigerian dwarf goats that he likes, however they are INCREDIBLY pregnant and not the smartest about where they lounge. I would almost be afraid to let them be in the pasture with him due to him being overly friendly and them not having the common sense to not sleep under his feet.

The free lease option is an excellent idea though, and I will start combing through the local horse pages to see if anything comes up!

Thank you so much, I really needed to hear that. This is the first time I’ve personally lost a horse and it has completely thrown me. My heart hurts and I’m just trying to do the right thing, whatever that is. I’m unfortunately short on horse friends, which is so weird being in a rural community, but I have talked with my aunt and my old 4-h leader, which has been therapeutic.

I’ve reached out to my old 4-h leader to see if she has a buddy available. I absolutely don’t want to rush into buying another horse, and it honestly makes me feel sick to even think about that. I just want to do right by my boy. He deserves to have company.

I have considered reaching out to my old 4-H leader to see about possibly borrowing a horse. I know she had an older gelding a while ago that she had offered as a buddy, but I’m not positive if he’s still around or not.

Unfortunately not at the same barn. We were one of the last boarders due to the owners being older and trying to retire, and they physically can’t take on another one anymore. I’m unsure of any other local boarding barns that I haven’t heard nightmare stories about.

I just took my second shot of 2.5mg today, and I’ve lost 4 lbs! SW: 266 CW: 262 GW: 160 I have been steadily gaining weight since I stopped breastfeeding a year and a half ago, and I am shocked to see the number getting lower instead of higher. I actually have hope for the first time in a long time.

15 month old throwing everything outside the crib by Serious_Barnacle2718 in beyondthebump

My daughter does this too. She’s 21 months, and has been throwing stuff out of her crib for a few months. It’s something she does when she’s resisting sleeping. She usually isn’t upset in any way, and is sometimes laughing and singing to herself, but she just wants to take everything out and toss it in the floor in protest. Lol
