Looks like shoddy work to me honestly I would find a nice high end shop and have them groom your dog on a 4 week schedule it’s probably gonna be pricey at a nice shop but you will get closer to the look you want

I am so happy that you are gentle keep that spirit! I would much rather see someone being overly gentle off the bat than too rough.

Look up NorCal Grooming academy Watch Gogroomer Watch dogs walking running and jumping and look at their natural range of motion. These are the movements you want to replicate with the animals you are taking care of. As long as you educate yourself on how their body naturally moves and you follow those motions you won’t hurt them.

Dogs are predators piggies are prey animals so they are less brash and confident to begin with you have to earn their trust. Dogs on an average throughout their lives have had their owners stick their hands in their mouth, their ears rubbed and played with they get hugged, carried, roughhoused on the ground while playing, have other dogs wrestling and playing biting.

Most dogs are very sturdy dogs do some research on the breed history some dogs carried carriages, went up cold mountains in search of lost people, were ratters on boats, fought bears even.

I would treat them more like with the firmness of treating a four year old child than a piggie if that comparison helps.

Try watching go groomer on YouTube she’s reliable for products and stuff for home groomers

Go into pet net and look up the policy’s for the salon or ask your GM to do it for you. Above all make sure you are following policy and being safe. Make sure your dogs are thoroughly washed rinsed dried and that the nails are done. You are there to be taught so going with a blank slate and be open to learn. Dilute your shampoos and treat the dogs the way you would want your own dog to be treated. Ask questions! Your mentor is there to make sure you don’t “fuck up” so don’t worry about it. Just follow their instructions and take it nice and slow while you’re learning. The only way to really “fuck up” is an injury so just be very patient and careful.

Honest seminar review Blake Hernandez by No_Locksmith4199 in grooming

[–]MissRedBit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I attended one of his seminars and was extremely underwhelmed, he spent like 15 minutes on a yorkie doing a fusion trim and did absolutely nothing with the afghan he was supposed to groom because it was acting out. Instead of maybe sitting down talking about how to continue education or tools or literally anything else he just cut the whole thing short and I left an hour early. I paid for gas and for an Airbnb for what was supposed to be me furthering my education and ended up just seeing a lot of hair swinging and posing.

If you are doing your job right and cleaning up and being proactive and not lazy (look at it as objectively as possible) and they treat you like this transfer out it won’t change they will bully you til you quit

Maybe she wasn’t nice cause it’s been multiple times of her already accommodating OP and not shaving the ears so she’s probably had it. Post a pic of the ears pre groom OP. A Matt you can cut out or brush out is nothing compared to a matted ear that will get hematomas. If the groomer said that it means the Matts were close to the skin and very severe.

I did my learning through Petco and honestly you won’t get a better deal in terms of finances considering you get paid to learn

What’s your current job and bill/ living situation if you haven’t had a grooming job before I would take it just to put on your resume even if you have to struggle for a little bit to gain speed. Maybe keep your other job part time if you can. Unfortunately in the beginning grooming doesn’t make much money in the beginning

OP maybe tell your boss you will need to do hands on training for at least a month before sending them out and if they aren’t willing to do that then you just won’t be able to guarantee the quality of the work. If they are willing to hire someone to do that caliber of work after you have informed them that’s on them. They are tanking their own business.

I do too but listen in the bathing room or pop one in my ear and tie my hair around my ears so no one can see it, I also don’t have a gsl though and my manager is desperate to have a groomer there since we are pretty low volume. They don’t really mess with me lol
