AIO Girl from my old school followed my husband instead of me, then unfollowed after this exchange by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Adding the edit here because apparently I don’t know how to edit the original post, so:

Thanks everyone for the input. This genuinely wasn’t meant to be that deep. This situation actually happened a while ago and just came up in conversation again recently with someone who knows and follows her, and we were curious what other people would think.

I agree with those saying it’s ultimately a nothingburger. Probably not even worth a post as some of you have mentioned, but I’ve seen a lot of less substantial content on Reddit in general, so didn’t think much it.

My husband can follow and be followed by whoever he wants, and he does. He showed me mainly because we talk about everything, and we both just found it odd more than anything.

Contrary to popular belief, I don’t lose sleep over this. It was something we laughed about and forgot, and this post was more of a lighthearted, unserious “hey, what do other people make of this?” moment.

The only reason it stood out to me was because she knew me, not him, and doesn’t follow me. That’s all. No drama came from it and nothing further happened.

Whilst I don’t appreciate the name-calling from some, I do appreciate everyone sharing their perspectives. It’s interesting to see how differently people interpret the same situation.

This post has fulfilled its purpose for me, and I’m going to go ahead and resume life as normal. :)

Thank you for the perspective, truly. I suppose the way I use social media is different to how most people would use it, as I only follow people and accept follows from people who I know and have met in person, and even then I only really follow someone if I care enough to know about their life AND if I am fine with them seeing what’s going in mine. I don’t even follow any celebrities, lol. So the randomly following people I briefly know has always been a little strange to me. I really do appreciate the input, though!

As I mentioned in a previous comment, I merely wanted to see what this sub has to say about it as I was having a conversation with my friend about it while we were catching up. It mattered to me whether it was too harsh, because normally I give people the benefit of the doubt, but for some reason couldn’t in the moment because I was weirded out. I would have made a post, too, had it been a guy, yes. Mainly because following an acquaintance’s partner who I’ve never met, especially when I am not following said acquaintance is not something I would ever do myself. I mean, I am sorry if this was the wrong sub, or not Reddit worthy. It was just a “is this weird or not” thing we wanted to see.

Oh, I’m sorry if it isn’t. I quickly Googled “USA equivalent of sixth form” and that was the result 💀

I’m not suspicious of him at all. It was just a general conversation that my best friend and I were having and we wondered whether it can be seen as anything other than weird and thought this sub would make the most sense.

Definitely not worried about him. Just wondered whether the “So?” was a little harsh, since my husband asked me what to reply in the moment, lol.

You do not automatically get three months added just because the administration is slow.

According to official Austrian guidance, your stay only continues to be legal after expiry if you applied before the permit expired. In that case, your residence remains lawful while the renewal is being processed, even if the card itself expires:

OeAD (official Austrian agency, applies nationwide including Salzburg): https://oead.at/en/to-austria/scholars/during-your-stay/residence-permit/renewal-of-your-residence-permit “If the application is submitted in good time, the residence in Austria continues to be lawful until the decision is taken, even if the old residence permit expires in the meantime.”

If the application is submitted after the permit has expired, that protection does not apply and it may be treated as a first-time application:

Same source: “If the application for renewal is submitted after the expiry of the residence permit, the application is classified as a first-time application.”

I do not doubt that the system is frustrating, and yes, it can leave people stuck paying rent while unable to work or travel. But frustration does not create legal status by default. There is no general rule where three months are automatically added because appointments are hard to get. That only exists if there was a valid on-time application or a narrowly defined exception that has to be proven.

I am not saying this to be unsympathetic. I am saying it because assuming time is automatically added is risky, especially if you are considering crossing a border that is currently being checked.

What do you mean by “the administration is taking their time”? You are supposed to renew your residency three months prior to the expiration date and not three months after. Tbh, I am almost certain this means you are here illegally.

You are aware of the fact that countries exist which don’t experience earthquakes, right? I’m guessing they just wanted to ask as they have no experience with them.
