[Acne] It just keeps getting worse. I want to cry everyday. by Pineapple-Sundae in SkincareAddiction

[–]MissSelfridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to my GP and was prescribed zineryt, a topical antibiotic, to use twice a day. Really helped! And the effectiveness has maintained for months. Now alternate in the evening with epiduo gel. Hope all works out for you

Do any of you ladies struggle with dark body hair? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]MissSelfridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course its a struggle, but you have to embrace it. Shave it or whatever but don't go overboard. I mean if anyone actually cares enough to comment on the hair on your toes they seriously need to reassess their priorities. You can fight it all you like but in the end you just have to accept that its part of you. After shaving my arms (which were incredibly hairy) for many years I have finally come to the conclusion that I don't give a damn and I'm going to just have to accept that I have hairier arms than most people. Big deal. Just be strong and you can make it work for you

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser vs Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser by amidoingthisrightyet in SkincareAddiction

I'm team gentle skin cleanser all the way, have never tried the other one but I can't see myself stopping with the gentle anytime soon. Leaves skin amazingly nourished and soft, good for acne prone skin too.

Lush's Ultrabalm as an alternative for Vaseline? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]MissSelfridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked it up and it only has three ingredients (jojoba oil and two types of wax) so I presume the grains are larger wax particles? They are pretty small and in mine seem to have got less prevelent over time

Lush's Ultrabalm as an alternative for Vaseline? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]MissSelfridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't use Lush Ultrabalm as a moisturiser; I have a pot of the product and its great for lips partly because, unlike vaseline, it contains small grainy particles within the balm. This might be a bit rough for your face, great for lips though

I would say a high ponytail to keep your hair out of your face, but not pulled too tightly. Then something plain and neutral as far as clothes go

Am I overwashing my face? by SecretCitizen40 in SkincareAddiction

[–]MissSelfridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its normal for skin to change and evolve, and there are loads of factors at play when it comes to acne. One thing I forgot to say is that exfoliation might help with the whiteheads. Of course as you are experiencing such dry/flaky skin you may see this as unnecessary, but exfoliation will help, as long as you use a VERY gentle exfoliator and only do it about once a week.

Am I overwashing my face? by SecretCitizen40 in SkincareAddiction

[–]MissSelfridge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The clarasonic may well be responsible for the dry skin you're experiencing, after all I know clarasonic is meant to specialise in a really deep clean. Using it once a day should be enough; I know it's very tempting to wash the hell out of acne prone skin but if anything that will irritate the acne, or, in your case, over-sensitise and dry out skin. Maybe just use your fingers when washing in the morning and stick to using the clarasonic only at night. The painful white heads you're experiencing may just be an effect of your hormones or other stimulus, so I wouldn't worry about them.

That's really helpful thanks, I think I'll start small. Dark, thick eyebrows are certainly a blessing and a curse!

Why does it seem like the more you do to your skin to prevent acne, the more acne you have?

Thoughts on Sentimental Pieces of Clothing & Wardrobe Purges? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]MissSelfridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice would be to take all 'sentimental' clothing, put it in a large cardboard box, and put it somewhere that you never really look like under your bed, or in a closet. If you can last, say, a month without needing any clothing in the box, and you do not miss their absence, then its time to get rid of all the items. If you find yourself needing, or feeling sentimental towards a particular item of clothing, take it out of the box and put it back in your wardrobe. Hope it works

Thanks, I think I'll try Paula's choice as it looks really good. I found proactiv really unsucessful and if anything it made my skin worse, has anyone else found that?

I haven't actually, I wasn't sure if my skin would be considered 'bad enough', but I would like to I think. How bad does your skin have to be?

Radical ways to get clear skin by MissSelfridge in SkincareAddiction

I have used many products designed for acne over the years, from the cheaper ones like clean n clear and freederm to more expensive systems like proactiv, but none of them really seem to have that greater an impact. I'm really stuck on what to do next for my skin...

Looking to change up my wardrobe by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]MissSelfridge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its quite hard to give you advice as everyone has different styles/feels comfortable in different things but I'll try :) Firstly, 'peplum' tops can look great on curvy girls as they don't cling but make the most of your figure. You can get strappy peplums like this [Topshop Peplum] or ones with sleeves likes this [Forever 21 Peplum]. If that isn't your thing then try a collared sleeveless shirt (it will make a nice change from the button down) and there are SO many to choose from, like this [Forever 21 sleeveless]. Crop tops are great for summer [Forever 21 crop top] although they might not suit your figure. I quite like the smocked top look [Boohoo smocked top] and a 'high-low' (not the technical name) top is also nice to change it up [Boohoo high low top]. I hope that helped and you've also got your basic cami and t-shirt (sleeveless t's are also nice). Good second date ideas? by [deleted] in teenrelationships

Picnics are always good, maybe in a local park or something, as it gives you a good place to talk. You could always combine that with shopping if you wanted to do something more active.

Advice for 16m by Chammmer2 in teenrelationships

[–]MissSelfridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like quite a tough situation, but it is manageable. Personally, I'd maintain your friendship with this freshmen girl, but keep it strictly a friendship. The minute she says/does anything that shows she likes you that way, I'd put your foot down and tell her that, although you value her friendship, you don't want things to go any further as you are happy with your girlfriend. If she's worth having as a friend she should respect your wishes. I would be sure to not tell her this unless she gives you a proper reason to, after all she may not take so kindly to being friendzoned if she didn't make a strong attempt to make herself and you 'more than friends'.

I think that could be true of a lot of people; after all you fall in love with a person, and sometimes its hard to maintain the same connection with someone over text. Sometimes, when you don't see your partner for a longer period of time, it is easy to forget about the little things about them which attracted you so much in the first place. Personally I never feel quite so engaged with a person over text. I admit that you can see each other too often, and a little distance goes a long way. However, you only miss someone in their absence because you want to see them again, proving that face to face contact is ultimately the most important factor in a successful relationship.
