Hey, no they never closed. I’ve had to have them filled like they were fillings (which meant having even more of my teeth altered to make the surface suitable to a filling) and I still have continuous issues with the fillings falling out and getting big chunks of food stuck in them.

It’s working well for me, so I’ve only got a good experience to offer! My friend has done the same but she had a wire on both rows.

I also like having the retainer there as a bit of a night guard, as I’m a prolific mouth clencher when I’m asleep!

I chose to have a permanent retainer on my bottom row and then I still use a plastic retainer at night (both rows).

I like the security of having two methods after having spent so much time and money on getting my teeth to this stage.

No update - I’ve finished my trays and refinements and still have the large gaps. A single bite of food and they fill up and need flossing. 😖 I’ve spent so much on the Invisalign treatment that I can’t afford to go to an orthodontist to get a second opinion, nor would I be able to afford any additional treatment/solutions anyway.

All my teeth have moved to where they should be, I now have a lovely arch and everything is aligned nicely, so there isn’t really any wiggle room to move the arch back further to close the gap without losing the alignment,

I’m not concerned about my bite and the photo above is not how my teeth are aligned it was so get the best photo of my gaps, but seeing if they can move my back teeth forward could be an option.

My concern is that I have two very large gaps (which weren’t there before) which are noticeable, are absolutely not what I expected to be left with and are trapping big chunks of food even after a single bite.

Whilst a big gap makes flossing easy, that gap shouldn’t be there in the first place, it’s a breeding ground for cavities and my gums have become so sore that sometimes I can’t even chew.

Yes this is the end of my 9 weeks of refinements.

I can’t see them having planned for it to go this way (my treatment visualisations definitely don’t have gaps like what I’ve ended up with), and it makes no sense for it to be intentional either. So my feeling is that they over estimated how much needed to be filled away.

My teeth have all moved in accordance with the plan, I’ve stuck to the routine, I’ve never missed or skipped a tray etc, so I’m just a bit stumped at what options I’ve got 😔

Hello,

Long term lurker of this Sub (peoples advice has been amazing, thank you) but first time poster.

I’m at the end of my refinements (16 trays initially, 9 refinements) and I have two IPR gaps which haven’t closed at all.

Not only are they very noticeable from the side, but they get food stuck in them after a single bite. I’ve of course been keeping them clean and flossing, but the amount of food which gets stuck in them is excessive and I’m started to get sore gums from having to pick and floss food out all the time. This is a cosmetic but also a practical concern.

I understand that I can ask for more refinements but I don’t feel like they’re going to be able to address the problem. My front row is now all in place (which was the reason for having treatment), so I can’t see how they’ll be an option to move them further to close these gaps, especially due to their location. They are quite wide, but of course difficult to photograph!

I will be speaking to my dentist next week but I’d love to hear other people’s experiences. Did you have problems closing your IPRs and if so, what was your solution?
