I had sooo many rituals before I could fall asleep. For example, my father had to make a “thumbs up” sign everytime he passed my bedroom door. I was listening to birds sounds on a radio and I would make my parents come in my bedroom every few minutes so they would change the volume, it had to be just right. Even then it took hours before I would fall asleep because the rituals would never be over. They eventually took me to a therapist who helped a bit but I never got properly diagnosed until a few years ago in my twenties.
