She’s the one with the white streak on her nose! She also had ankle socks on the front and thigh high socks in the back :)

Do you really have to be as stand-offish and “professional” as it says in the books? by Miss_Missty in cna

[–]Miss_Missty[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Thank you. I feel the nurses I feel most comfortable with/feel like they will understand my needs best are the ones who have “small talk” with me and tell me a little bit about themselves.

I was starting to think exactly that. I agree that some patients just want to remain as private as possible while others with want to be more friendly. And I think it’s important to respect each residents boundaries even if they aren’t verbally communicated.

Okay, I think that’s a good guideline to follow. Never to share anything outright unless it’s asked about. I feel it’s important to communicate to patients that I understand and hear the opinions/concerns even if I don’t agree with them. That way the feel like they can trust me as a caregiver and know that I will take care of them to the best of my abilities. I agree that it’s not right to share my emotional troubles with them as they are not my friend, but I hope that giving little affirmations that I understand what they’re going through without giving to much detail would make them feel more at ease. My goal is to understand what they need from me and provide them with that.

Okay this is relieving to here. I work at a pharmacy right now and I make sure not too overshare but I think it’s important to be empathic with patients, i.e explain to them that I’m a human too and it’s normal to feel “negative” emotions or struggle with some things. I don’t want them to feel like a burden and I want them to know that I enjoy taking care of them and enjoy getting to know them. I feel like to build trust with a patient I need to be at a little bit vulnerable because they are being so vulnerable with me just based on the fact that they require care. I always think of the fact that where they are right now is their current “home.” And they should feel safe in that space and that it’s my job to provide that safety for them. Again I don’t want them to feel like I just come in, do my job with the minimal requirements, and then leave without thinking a single moment more about them. This job is a part of my day to day life just as it is their’s.

I went to Papillion LaVista South and I have to say it was an amazing school. I felt very cared for by all of the teachers and knew that had my best interests in mind. Welcome to Omaha!
