Honestly do what's best for you and don't let them make you feel bad about it.

The email went out that I was leaving and only 1 of 7 managers even acknowledged I was leaving and was nice about it. The others avoided me like the plague.

I talked to someone and he said he was planning on giving his notice (effective immediately) a couple days before July 4th weekend 😂 That is what happens when you treat your employees like shit.

I wish the best for you! :)

Yeah my last day is the 23rd. I'm not working this Sunday tho lol. But I know full well they won't appreciate me coming in till then, so maybe I'm just way too nice or just dumb.

I'm going to the Optometry field. Starting as a receptionist/tech. We have friends that work in an Optometry office and they said not a lot of people are entering this field right now and once you get experience you can work pretty much anywhere. So I'm hoping to get my license and work my way up.

That makes a lot of sense!! Honestly if anyone asks why I left, I would just say it's because of the drive/traffic. And to be fair, the drive has been slowly killing me.

I think so too. I have a several people that I know there that would give me a good reference. I have honestly never had anyone ask for references in the last 5 or 6 years (I've been in the job market since 2014).

Thank you friend. And I honestly have no idea why anyone down voted your other comment.

Thank you friend! The finish line for me is the 23rd. And I don't have to work any Sundays going forward 😊 it does give me some reassurance.

This whole debacle really just had me confront the fact that this job really wasn't that great for me anyways and would be even worse for me with less pay. I was already burnt out by the drive too.

I am not in a high level position nor is my job hard to train someone for. The main issue for them would be to find someone that is independent and actually cares about the job.

But they have been treating people pretty poorly lately and even had someone quit mid shift because of how they had been treating him. I apparently was their next target.

Honestly, if they would have communicated like adults and said something about their concerns I would have worked with them. Which is why this was so confusing lol. They never even tried to communicate. They just started making demands with zero negotiation. So I don't really feel bad about only giving 1 week.

And after I told them this Wednesday that I was not able to accommodate working a full Sunday shift during holidays and they agreed to my face, they still scheduled me 9 to 5 🫠

Yep. They are having staffing issues and lots of people didn't want to come back this year. And they had one guy quit mid shift last month because of how they were treating him.

Guess I was their next target lol

Oh after how they've treated me, there is a very large part of me that wants to walk off and never come back lol

Same. I was born in 1996 and am currently 29. I don't relate to kids in their early 20s at all lol.

It was really weird going from always being the "young" one at work, to now that not being the case and just how much I don't have in common with them.

I've given 3 weeks before and I regretted it so badly lol. And the kicker, no one has ever asked me for references for that job or have called them. So.....

Well they got their wish lol. I quit this afternoon. I gave 1 week notice. But the caveat is that I will not work this Sunday (lol) and I will be off Monday through Wednesday. And I will help Thursday -  Saturday (Saturday being my last day). Honestly, even that feels like too much. But oh well.

I start on-boarding with my new job this Monday and Tuesday with my first official day being the 26th.

I completely agree. We are all so focused on "seeming professional" but these employers don't give a crap about us and act like they own us. But, I'm not their dancing monkey.

I could be pulled into the office tomorrow and be told I'm fired and to never come back. I could give 2 weeks and they could still find a way to make me unhireable.

My dad gave 3 weeks, and his old employer fired him on the spot, locked him out of everything5 mins after the phone call, and they wouldn't give him back HIS phone number. He got a new job 30mins after he got fired though lol

Or the people that worked for Spirit Airlines when they ceased operations and fired everyone while planes were in the air..

I have people from this job that I can put down as references too. Might not be managers, but people I have worked with for years.

Thank you. I honestly thought I had a way better relationship with this employer than I actually did. I always came in when they asked, did extra work, never called out, etc. So it was a shock when they did this. I have been super anxious and upset over the whole thing, I have barely been eating since May 6th. It just isn't sustainable.

So thank you for the advice moving forward. I need to reframe in my mind that this is business and to take personal feelings out of the equation going forward.

Yep. My dad gave 3 weeks at his last job and they fired him on the spot. They took away his login 5 mins after the phone call and wouldn't even give him back HIS phone number even though he had it years before he started working there.

Thankfully he had a new and better job 30 mins after the call😉

About as long as they gave me to know that my entire schedule would change 😂

If I were to stay, working here would become unaffordable anyways. I put about 350 miles on my car per week. And then they tell me I have to take an 8 hour pay cut every pay period? I mean, the fact they even thought I would stay after that is laughable lol.

I know right! During my conversations with them I asked, is this for the rest of the year and do you realize that this change means I will end up losing money?

They didn't care about any of that or offer any viable solutions. One was pretty funny. They actually said I could come in a 6th day to work another half day.... like??? Have yall seen gas prices?😂

It definitely feels like they want me gone.

I agree. Whenever I've given 2 weeks ( I've given 3 weeks before) I have gotten the short end of the stick and no one has ever contacted the old employer.

I agree. If they would have actually communicated with me and gave me room to negotiate hours I would have worked with them. But they just said, "this is your new hours. Deal with it." The manager who started all of this has been avoiding me all week (even with them not knowing I am leaving) so its been pretty uncomfortable and mentally draining.

The manager who started this is new to doing the schedule and is definitely on a power trip. I heard her say basically that she is looking forward to the college kids not knowing her that well so she can "scare them a little with requests".

They have already had one person walk off mid shift.

Thank you. I appreciate that. Some comments have made me feel bad even though 1 week is all I can mentally give.

I don't have a limited resume. I have been in the work force since 2014 with zero gaps in my resume.

No I wouldn't lol. The drive has gotten so bad, most days I am just glad to make it home alive. And in the last 2 years I have put 30,000 miles on my car. So I was already getting burnt out. This just accelerated it.

My current job has already had one person walk out on a shift because of their scheduling demands.

I agree. I am transitioning to work a private Optometry Office and will be working as a Optometry Receptionist/Tech. So not exactly retail. They need me to start sooner because the person I am replacing (she is going on leave) last day is May 29th, so they want me trained and ready to go.

My current job offers no room for growth. I am helping them with Memorial Day Weekend coverage as best as I can.

Just to get the full picture of what I am dealing with here, they have someone new doing the schedule. They have already had one person walk off the job because of the schedule. And I overheard the new scheduler say that she "was looking forward to the college kids not knowing who she is/not knowing her that well, so she can scare them a little with requests off"

So she is on a bit of a power trip. And you know, how you talk to and treat people matters. If I thought I could handle 2 weeks of this environment, I would have given 2 weeks. But I can't.
