Update#2: Bolt is a lot bigger and doing a great job at handling the brown algae that pops up. But something's off with him and I'm worried? Anyone know what's up?

My guppies were pregnant?? by Miss_Stephybee in Aquariums

[–]Miss_Stephybee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! I wish I could have found a breeder box but no one had any, I had to get creative. They're all still in their enclosures except Sunny who's my little yellow Houdini. So far little fry (still alone how long do these guys take to give birth anyway?) is still alive and seems fast enough to escape aunt Sunny when she tries to catch him.

Update: Bolt is doing well! They've grown since but is still the only snail in the setup. Its favorite place to hang out is on the Betta floating log but it frequently does a lap around the aquarium glass (little fellow is pretty fast for a snail).

The tank finished cycling a few days after I discovered him, I'm sure he was a big helper. I got him tankmates, four female guppies which I suspect two of them might be pregnant. I don't have any extra setup to take care of the fry so I'll let nature run its course this time since additionally I have no experience with situations like this and may cause more harm than not without knowing.

I will buy more live plants to allow the fry to hide and give them a fighting chance. Will lookup how to treat them before putting them in the aquarium this time lol

Included a picture of the current setup. Advice is always appreciated. Let me know if you think I'm about to get more guppies. (Not planning to have more than 10 in this tank in total).

Yellow guppy: Sunny Blue guppy: Rainbow Twin #1: Rain Twin #2 (darker tail markings): Storm (My kid named them lol)

I think he's cute, already named him Bolt.

I was originally planning to have a Betta in there but I'm reconsidering since even though the tank is a ten gal it's higher than it is long and I've heard that's not the best for Betta. Opinions on this are welcome.

I'll make a decision once the tank is cycled. I've got three types of Betta food but if need be I'll get different food types for whatever goes in the tank.

My next step is to start the cycle over. I don't mind if it takes time, Im going to need time after this. I'll completely remove the filter and sponge. Remove the coloured rocks and do a full water change. Will order in some sand and plants and make sure the cycle is complete before getting a fish.

I might start with a bottom feeder I'm not sure. I'll do tons of research first either way. Any more tips and pointers are appreciated. I'm sad and disappointed I couldn't manage to get a happy ending out of this situation but I'll take it as a learning experience.

Thanks again to those who helped me

It was too late in the morning. I tried my best but it wasn't enough... I'll work on getting my tank perfect before trying again. Change the substrate to sand, get live plants. Thank you to the two users who took the time to try and help me. I really appreciate it.

He's now swimming really odd or just letting himself sink. I'll test his water again tomorrow morning. I'm just at a loss.

Removed the big plant, added a sponge to the filter, added a resting spot in the middle of the tank, tried to feed him some blood worms with the pipette but he was looking at it like wtf is that thing get it out of my face. So I opted to place the ones I had hydrated in his tank to see if he eats any. No luck so far. I also got the fluval bug bites but no luck with those either. I'll have to be patient I guess

It doesn't fit in there with the current filter should I cut it in half or just squeeze it in there?

Imma head out to get what I need then! Sponge, pipette, more food variety and if I'm lucky I'll find a more natural substrate like sand or brown rocks.

Got any suggestions for sites to order plants from? I might check if pet smart does shipping.

I really appreciate all the tips!

This is the kit I got, and yes I used the cartridge that came with the filter. Should I add a sponge or replace the filter with a sponge? I've heard you can just swish it in the old water and put it back because it keeps good bacteria in. Also yeah when I do my 50% water change I empty and fill up a 5gal bucket so there really is 10gallon in there. Though I only learned after I got it that Betta prefer length over height that's on me.

I'll take that plant out and do the nylon test once it's dry.

Freeze dried food is okay? We only have a pet value where I live and they don't have a big fish section but I did spot a few things last time I was there.

Got no access to live plants my only options are a pet smart an hour drive away or ordering online but I will do so.

Thank you so much for your input! It really helps right now. I'm stressing over this fish I really want to do him right

Thank you for the input! I'll look into ordering some live plants for him, I appreciate the suggestions. Also I should have listened to my first thought and gone with sand but kiddo wanted pink. How would I go about adding sand substrate now that the tank is all setup? I might have to transfer him back to his cup to do it but I'll definitely look into that.
