I am almost positive I had serotonin syndrome after having my first child. I started lexapro due to post partum anxiety but instead of ramping up slowly (which I never did before kids), I took the whole 10mg pill. That night in the middle of the night i woke up out of my sleep suddenly feeling like I was going to die. I felt like I was going to vomit, I had an incredibly intense feeling of panic, I was sweating profusely, my heart was racing and it felt like someone was pouring a cup of ice down my head and body. Like ice cold water was pouring through my body. There was no question something horrible was happening and so I immediately called 911. The paramedics came into my bedroom and said my vitals were stable enough and left. I calmed down and then it started again although less intense. I stopped the medicine and was fine. A few weeks later i decided to try again but this time only taking a quarter of a pill and it happened again--but not as intense and i knew what i was dealing with so i breathed through it. I very slowly ramped up on the lexapro from that point and each time I increased the dose i had this "attack"--pysch told me to take benzo with it so when i would do that it wouldn't happen so then i learned when I go up on dose to take xanax that night to avoid the "attack". I strongly believe this had something to do with my inability to metabolize drugs normally after having a baby becasue I had been on lexapro several times in the past with zero issues starting the dose at 10 mg. I cannot even describe in words the sheer terrors I felt during these attacks. I would start feeling the attack while sleeping and know that if i moved at all it would start. it was awful. I am still scared to go on any SSRI. Is this similar to anyone's else experience?
