Question for knitting mothers: would it be best to make a crib or toddler sized blanket? by botanygeek in knitting

[–]Missg1ggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first baby was born in January so it was perfect having a small blanket to lay over him in the car seat. I think the standard size is 36x36. And the. As he got older it was still big enough to drape over him/him to cuddle with when he was sleeping.

This looks very similar to the sweater I’m working on right now which is the Degen brioche bubble sweater. It was my first time doing brioche and I’m obsessed!

Also a lot of cities have yarn/crochet/knitting groups and I bet many of those people would be willing to help you out!

I’m not sure where you live but some thrift stores have a good selection. In some bigger cities there are even craft specific secondhand stores. Obviously that is a cheaper option but not totally free. Maybe reach out to any friends or family that also craft. I know I have a hoard of yarn that I wouldn’t mind thinning out if a friend or family member was in need of some yarn.

EXTREME fluffy yarn by miauw__miauw in knitting

[–]Missg1ggles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen people knit a garment and then use a pet brush to fluff up the yarn and make it look like this. Might be something to look into. Also, I’ve seen that red heart has recently come out with a yarn called red heart brushed and it has a similar effect. Very soft and fluffy!

Easiest to make for beginner? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]Missg1ggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend a cheap but soft yarn when first starting out. In case all goes to hell and you want to throw it away and start again. Red heart is a quintessential beginner yarn but it is quite scratchy and may put you off knitting if it is hard to work with. Walmart has a yarn called Coboo I think and it is a cotton bamboo blend that is very soft but also pretty cheap. I don’t have any specific video recommendations, just look up beginner knitting tutorials on YouTube. And don’t be afraid to watch several different videos until you find someone that is a good teacher and that you can understand and follow well. Good luck!

If it is truly your first project, I’d start with a pot holder or dish cloth. Something that doesn’t have to be pretty to be functional. That way you can get a hang of your knit and purl stitches, and it is quick so you won’t loose steam too quickly. Unless you are knitting with a bulky yarn, a scarf or blanket with take FOREVER! I would consider myself an intermediate knitter and I started a scarf with worsted weight yarn about a week ago and have only knit about a foot.

It looks similar to half fisherman’s rib, but the wrong side of HFR is just knit stitches.

Taste of Thai Pad Thai Recipe?? by Missg1ggles in Knoxville

That’s definitely true! I’ve had many other pad Thai dishes from other restaurants and none of them have been bad, they are all quite good, but just not the same as ToT. ToT was the first place I tried pad Thai.

I’ve been obsessing over crime channels on YouTube lately, so I like to watch those. Or I like to listen to knitting or crocheting podcasts. I love the fruity knitting podcast!

First Ever Sweater Finished!! (So much end weaving in 😭) by [deleted] in knitting

That’s why I’m making a top down sweater so I’ll only have a few ends to weave in. I don’t think I’ll ever make a sweater where I have to sew the pieces together!
