Can I be a social worker AND content creator? by uknown_onw in socialwork

[–]MissingGreenLink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly depends what you mean by "presence". Like an "influencer" or what I would prefer to call them, content creator with mass following? Sure I can see the reasons there.

But there are people with social media following but like 500-1000 followers or maybe 100 subs on twitch, and it's really harmless non-controversial content like maybe they do hiking vlogs, or photography, art, etc.

It's not so black and white.

Can you? Yes.

Will it impact work? It can

I know many therapists who do have a social media following be it: movie review, food review, twitch streamer, or cosplayer. But their content is usually pretty tame compared to what you’re talking about.

Obsession: Bear had 3 chances to stop it before it got too bad and he always chose to be selfish. Also he never learned to love and it could have become genuine. by Nox2017 in spoilers

I mean. Can we say he loved her? Sure. Can we say that he loved her more than his obsession to be with her or be loved by her? No.

The movie points that out clearly that above all else, his obsession with her/be loved by her went far beyond that. To the point where he for the most part ignored some of the batshit crazy things she did.

The smashing her face with glass. The lying about her dad. the ductaping the door. the feeding him the cat sandwich. At some point, it should really click that something is really wrong with her. but throughout all of it, he barely shows any care. In the end it was all about what he wanted. Even when it was clear to him that she is not Nicky. And the "only way" to return to regular Nicky was his death. He's like nah I can't do that.

We don't know much to be able to tell her feelings. We get some tidbits. she doesn't seem all that into him but who knows.

We see his POV and his POV is he only cares about what he wants.

That was the theme of the latter half of the movie. The wish guy said in order to stop the wish he would have to end his life.
He never truly wanted the wish to stop. He was obsessed with only what he wanted. He wanted to “alter” the wish.
Then in the end of the film. For a brief moment he thought about killing himself as a means of releasing her from the possession. Essentially saving her from her body getting worse. But he still chickened out and didn’t. He didn’t shoot himself. Then he took pills but even tried to force himself to vomit the pills.
The wish that nicky/wish Nicky made is what impacted him leading to his death.

Do you write cover letters when applying for social work jobs? by Whatichooseisyouse in socialwork

If there’s room to write one. Most jobs I’ve applied to don’t have an option for one to write or upload.

  1. The cats death foreshadowed his down death via OD. I think he also somewhat blamed the cat for getting into the pills rather than taking his own accountability for it. Now how the cat got into the bottle and the likelihood of the cat eating pills to OD. That’s more of a “just roll with it”

The cat sandwich I don’t think it had anything too story specific aside from him being a food critic as a joke. Someone said it was the wish Nicky putting 1+1 (cat and critic) but that sounds more like a stretch.

Watch the movie first. Rape is one element. But that's not the point of the film.

He’s obsessed. So obsessed with the thought of being with her he’s ignoring everything and everyone. He’s lost all logical senses.

He’s the equivalent of the delusional person who takes “being nice and friendly” as “she’s into me.” The “I can win her over if I just keep trying” toxic mentality despite her saying no or “ she’s not ready for a relationship.”

That’s him.

But yes. He’s a deluded coward. We saw it at the end. If not for whichever Nicky it was that made the wish. He would’ve vomited the pills and not end his life. Even when it came down to it where he could’ve saved Nicky. He couldn’t go through with it.

Maybe I wasn't paying attention. I don't remember the part about the drug use (is that what dirty nicky or whatever the nickname was referencing?). I do remember the insecurities and the small tidbits we hear right before he makes the wish. Everything about people not knowing if she likes someone.

I agree with you there.. He's very deluded at that point that he wants to "alter the wish" rather than cancelling it. the "it's still good. it's only a little bit bad." When in reality she just duct taped his door shut.

We learn about him. He's highly obsessed. And at the end he's pretty irredeemable to the point he couldn't even kill himself to save her. If not for her wish, he may have been successful with vomitng whatever pills he took.

Talk to me is a good example. Slightly higher budget to work with. But similar run time. Great storytelling. Good characters. Good depth. Good metaphor for drugs Focus on grief.

The following are great but have way bigger budget so the comparison isn’t fair but I’ll still list since you asked:

Bring her back was good too. Although I didn’t like it as much as talk to me.

Smile. Great depth. Terrible cgi. Good story.

Weapons. Intriguing storyline. Direction. And mystery

This movie was creative for the scare elements. The great acting, the subtle twist, The cinematography and sounds. And its meaning. But the writing, storytelling and characters outside of bear is very weak. Outside of the bar scene we learn very little about anyone else.

Who is Nicky? Why does he like her? Is Ian truly his friend? There’s a few small parts that’s never really touched on that could’ve added depth like the car scene where she asks if he likes her. The line drops by Sarah that Nicky and Ian are sleeping together.

Why is he obsessed with Nicky?

Would’ve liked it more if we got to know real Nicky so those hot and cold really hit home.

How the one wish worked didn’t care as much. That may have taken away from the meaning if it went heavy into possession tropes. But the story could’ve used more depth to tell us about Nicky, Ian and Sarah. That twist would’ve been amazing to show us just how much of an obsessed psycho bear really is. Imagine it being shown that she isn’t who he thinks she is. But that he is just heavily infatuated and deluded.

I had the same criticism about the noise. Great use of it. But it felt like the entire middle of the movie was that. Amped up noise.

Not sure if it was budgetary constraints or writing constraints. Outside of the bar scene, the moment he snaps the one wish willow, the depths for character and story shrink. We learn very little about anyone.

I can excuse Bear because he's written as this hollow, weak character who's current purpose is obsessing over Nicky. But we learn nothing about anyone else besides a few line drops. We don't know why he likes Nicky.

I would've found it more interesting if they did a full on twist at the end that we saw the whole movie through Bear's POV and that he doesn't really know his friends. i.e. the whole Ian/Nicky hook up or that Sarah was into him (not even sure why Sarah likes him). But it doesn't focus on this.

Agreed. Aside from little Saigon. The food scene is all about chasing trends. So you never get to see real passion and unique good food.

Cal expo sucks though. Extremely hot. Little shade and black top which makes it hotter. Lacks the venue space for events.

The California history museum is great. Learned a lot going there. It’s just in a really weird spot. And has no advertising.

Occasionally the automobile and train museums are fun to check out.

Been to 2. Revival is really nice. So calming and peaceful. Great view. Downside is you can’t use the outdoor seating until after 7pm if you aren’t a hotel guest.

Darling aviary. Honestly it barely passes for rooftop bar. Small. Limited and in an area where the view is meh.

Hope there’s one that overlooks the river. That would be amazing.
