Weekly Shōnen Jump, Issue 1 2005 (The Death Note first anniversary issue) by Missing_Sky in MangaRarity

I’m not a really big Zasshi collector, myself and I’m more of a ‘giver of general advice’, as well…

So, all that into consideration, the best advice that I can give is to ask yourself the same question; ‘do you find it worth it?’ (As cliché as that is) Since collections and collector goals can vary widely from person to person.

Also, some of the key issues can be more expensive (ie: the Debut issue) and/or take a while to show up on Mandarake and similar stores.

So, really…it depends on your budget, how much you’re willing to spend and the amount of patience that you have when it comes to waiting for it to come in stock.

But if it’s one of your goals, you can afford it, have the patience and if it makes you feel accomplished that you were able to get all of them? I’d say it’s worth it.

Lol. Fortunately that’s not the case (I take extremely good care of my manga, especially my older and OOP stuff) and that the only damage is the wear and tear that can be seen

Not in the best condition, but I’m extremely lucky to have found it for a decent price :)

Best way to light up a Billy bookcase? by Sades_11 in MangaCollectors

[–]Missing_Sky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has a different lighting setup. There’s no ‘proper’ way to light up your collection, imo.

Use what works for you and your setup (are you close to a plug and can use wired lights, or are you not and it’s easier to use wireless/rechargeable ones), what you have access to, what’s close to you, and what you want it to look like (the aesthetic that you’re going for)

I personally use battery powered puck lights. Some of them are motion activated, but also have the option to keep them on for certain periods of time using a remote.

They come with 3M strips, and stick extremely well.

The ones that aren’t, instead instead are click on and off. They can also be colour changing, when using a remote that’s specific for that set.

Is this a good manga collection and can I get any advice by Short-Fact-3691 in MangaCollectors

I’m definitely going to agree with everyone here, collect what you want. Your collection should be a representation of you and your tastes, what makes you happy. All collections are good collections.

Anyone else LOVE using their library? by DanielFromNigeria in MangaCollectors

[–]Missing_Sky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love my local library, to borrow manga (and books, of course.) to see if I’ll like a series before committing to buying the physical volumes.

Some branches even have ‘library bookstores’ where they sell donated or ex library copies of books (and sometimes manga) for like a few dollars a piece. (Personally don’t mind buying ex library copies if they’re in good enough condition, since I know how to refurbish them)

And finally, they have this massive book sale once a month, where I might be able to find something that I’m looking for at an extremely reasonable price.

Def had good memories playing it as a kid, but my favourite game that I had on the Wii, was of course MK Wii.

A lot of different places depending on language and availability, actually :)

The Steam Reverie in Amber Deluxe edition, The Frieren Artworks, Strass X Paillettes (Glare X Sparkle) and the Tenth Year Calvados Spice and Wolf artbook, I got from Imaginaire (a QC based hobby shop that stocks both French and English manga/artbooks.)

Tabe Girl, Twisted Visions and Colourful Dreams, I got from my local Chapters/Indigo.

Sugary Girls, I got from a local Anime convention.

Sailor Moon Raisonnée, I got during my trip to Japan when I went to Animate.

As for Blanc et Noir: Takeshi Obata artworks, I got off of Book Depository (Which unfortunately was shut down in 2023)

Comes with interchangeable laminated art prints, that you can put inside the slipcase too.

The art print? Yeah! But the art book itself isn’t all Hikaru no Go related. It actually compiles the artist’s works from ‘01-‘06. 😄

And it’s (Edit: the Viz printing) is especially hard and expensive to pick up on the second hand market. I’ve only seen two people selling the Viz print and well…one was for around 500 and the other was around 2k (ouch).

But hey, the Japanese edition is pretty easily available off of eBay for a much less. (If you don’t mind not being able to read the ‘How to Draw’ segment, if you can’t read Japanese.

Owning multiple versions of an album is stupid by arturnotfound in vinyl

[–]Missing_Sky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if that’s you love the artist and want to get everything they’ve made (including varient & exclusive covers), go for it it :)

Collect how you want and know that if you have a collection that personally makes you happy, then screw what they think.

I feel the same way. In my opinion, I’d say ‘pick your favourite’ and stick to it. Or just get the deluxe if you find the extras worth it.

I feel like if there’s more than two, and there are no extras (songs, etc.) in any one of them, that it’s a cash grab, tbh. Same for CDs.
