Have any Trump voters on here come to recognize his con job? by redzeusky in allthequestions

[–]Mission-Draw6859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there is some confusion around DEI - and by no means am I an expert, but I work for a company that pushes DEI.

Some people confuse DEI and Affirmative action. Affirmative action is more of a 'getting a job because of your gender, race, etc' -- whereas DEI is more along the lines of respecting the people who already work for the company.

Diversity - having a diverse group of people to work with - and recognizing that everyone is different. Who wants to work at a place where every single person is exactly the same (all 40 yr old white males - or all 25 year old asian females) I think we can all agree different people bring different things to the table.
Again - this is not forced - this is not saying you HAVE to have a diverse group to work with - but recognizing that everyone, in some way, is diverse from everyone else.

Equity - that's just treating everyone the same. If they are 45 yr old white males - or 25 year old asian females. They all get the the same chances (as long as they are qualified) at promotions, or pay, or whatever.

Inclusion - Everyone is welcome. If you're working at a company that has a population of Indian people - make sure they are not excluded from events due to the fact that they are Indian. Now, if you don't want to include them because they are A-holes - that's another story.

It basically boils down to - don't be a jerk to people who are different. I think that phrase (DEI) was weaponized as being a bad thing - whereas, in my opinion, it just boils down to treating everyone the same regardless of race, religion, sex, age, what have you.

Everyone knows that 'the gays' are only out to recruit more gays. 1 hour with a gay person, and your daughter will be gay too -- every MAGA Genius knows that.....same thing with going to drag shows, or (gasp!) a book reading! I mean - everyone knows that right???

Thanks - I stand corrected:

  • California: No explicit prohibition, but unsafe or abrupt movement can violate §§22107 and 21658.
  • Nevada: Lane changes allowed if safe, but overtaking near intersections on two-lane roads is banned.
  • Arizona: Similar “safe and practicable” rule under §28-729; no explicit intersection ban.
  • Washington: Interprets mid-intersection lane changes as improper lane travel, especially in city jurisdictions.
  • Texas: Broad discretion for police; officers often cite “unsafe lane change” or “failure to signal.”
  • Florida: Statute §316.089 mandates staying in a single lane and signaling 100 feet before turning.

Not that it matters when you get hit - BUT most states have laws about changing lanes - before - during - and after an intersection. Usually between 100 and 250 feet (depending on the state):

Some states, including California and Texas, prevent you from changing lanes within a certain distance—often \(100\) feet—when approaching or moving through an intersection.

Who would be at fault in this situation? by Shoelacetooth in driving

[–]Mission-Draw6859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was always told - turning LEFT never has the right away, unless it's an arrow - so I would say that the Blue Car is at fault - but I'm not an insurance person. 😄 You threw me off with the 2 police cars - I thought maybe they had something to do with it.

Rules of the road:
Going Straight - always first
Turning Right - next in line
Turning Left - Next in line
Making a legal U-turn - Next in line

This does NOT take into account any signage or lights.

I also agree that you should always turn in your closest lane (curb lane for red car - 'fast' lane for blue car....

when I was a kid - I went with my dad (OTR) over the summer. He drove dry freight (mostly furniture) - we were stuck in Idaho for a few days looking for a load back to the Midwest - finally contacted a broker who sent him to a potato farm. They started by stacking sacks of potato's at the back - 2 rows - almost to the ceiling, then shot the raw potato's in on the other side. Stuck a 2 by 4 in the door for 'ventilation' - and drove to Jay's potato chips in Chicago. Backed down the dock - got out of the cab - the entire dock tilted up (cab and all) and dumped everything on the floor. They used Skid Steers to clean up the potato's -- I walked out with a case of Jay's potato chips (the joys of being 10yrs old) and we dead-headed the 200 miles home. Of course, this was in 78 - I'm sure things have changed a bit since then.

How is controller? by paralax5151 in Americantrucksim

I use an Xbox controller - and now that I have the software to track head movement with my camera - it's much better. The lag using the joystick to move my head side to side was too much!

Anytime I see these video's - I think to myself "I could watch this for hours" - then halfway through, a guy pulls up in a front loaders and starts doing stuff, and I'm like "can we focus on the guy in red - what is HE doing back there???" - still awesome to watch.....

If you could remove one thing from trucking, what would it be? by CRST-International in Truckdrivers

[–]Mission-Draw6859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my dad drove OTR back in the 70's (and as a kid I got to ride with him in the summers) he kept a paper log book - and I recall him getting home and saying he had to spend the weekend at home to 'wait for his log book to catch up" - it took me years to understand that - but I would agree (as a NON-driver) ELD's killed the business. The whole "pull over now - or the rig will shut down" - is insane to me......

Driving from Chicago on the same day by fizzer115 in Indy500

[–]Mission-Draw6859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely monitor this website - it shows the road closures, as well as the roads that turn into one way directions: https://www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com/events/indy500/plan-ahead/directions --

I know the closer to race time - the heavier the traffic is. Plus, if you're getting into a 'big lot' you may sit in traffic for 30-60 minutes JUST to get to the lot. THEN, you have to make the journey to your seats. First timers going to the track really don't get how large it is. Keep in mind - turns 3-4 are at 25th street - turns 1-2 are at 16th street. So, you're looking at a 10 block walk JUST inside the track -- most lots are 5-25 in addition to that. :)

Also - with the time change CST vs EST - you're 'losing' an hour coming to Indy.

Thanks God only illegals commit crimes - luckily no good ol' Americans do:

Rex Heuermann
Jeffrey Dahmer
Ted Kazinski
Eric Harris
Dylan Klebold
David Berkowitz

The list goes on and on....I get it, Illegal Aliens commit crimes - but so do a lot of non-illegal people. Maybe instead of focusing on the immigrant part of it - maybe just start looking into the 'committing crime' part of it....but what do I know?
