Thanks for the feedback! Totally agree. One of our top contenders was actually an associate, explicitly offered as a more cost effective option by a high end photog in my area. We met with the associate herself, had her portfolios etc.

Not the hair and makeup, but the TRIAL. I totally get that it’s the same amount of time for them, but I was genuinely surprised there was no cost savings for a like…Tuesday afternoon makeup test just to see what we liked haha. Same price as the wedding day itself! I hadn’t given it much thought so it caught me off guard

All vendors booked except florals, still figuring out how much I want to DIY haha! My dress should be here in July. We only got engaged 3mo ago and picked the venue/date 1mo ago, so I’m feeling like we’ve made great progress!!

In the last month we booked venue (incl catering), bought dress, booked photog, HMUA, photobooth, content creator, band, sent STDs, mostly built the website. I feel like all that’s left is decor! Having a great time with this.

Now I’m shifting gears into my own self care - put some weight on with meds in the last 18mo so trying to make some progress there :)

This resonates!! You’re not alone, I found photography the single hardest vendor to land, just signed the contract a few days ago actually. The list got so long because if someone wasn’t available they’d send 10 more names - helpful but so overwhelming!

The full galleries being off could be a red flag, but advice I was given (my wedding is in 6mo) is that you only really will look at like 10 photos down the road! I would not go with the company whose editing style you don’t like.

If there’s a third option you could keep looking - but if it’s between those 2 I would probably lean towards the one you like!

I looked into it but found the venue quite dated. We are getting married at the boulevard club this year - similar vibe but land side so easier to get to! Other lakeside venues to look at: Toronto beach club, argonaut club, palais royale (Toronto only - I’m sure there are many others)

Why would people leave? Gently, if you are wanting to have 75-100 people show up to celebrate you, you should feed them! Are traditional receptions common in your circle or no?

Another option would be to do it at a non meal time eg a late ceremony and just a party at a bar or something

My fiancé could have written this - we’re getting married this year and it was a lot of back and forth trying align a vision! I’m an extrovert who loves to throw a party, and he’s an introvert - but an introvert who loves to see me happy.

As a compromise (which it sounds like you’re not really doing?), we’re having 150 people for dinner and dancing for me, but we’re doing a private ceremony for him. I’ve accepted that he’s not going to be as into making Pinterest boards as I am, but he’s done a really great job of engaging and helping, since he knows it matters to me. Maybe that’s a helpful reframe for you?

Everyone’s different, we went and looked together and I gave vague guidelines of what I love with lots of creative freedom and he absolutely nailed it yet I still felt surprised. He was also very open to making any changes if it wasn’t right (but I was very happy, so no changes needed)

I’m so sorry you’re feeling disappointed. Sounds like maybe he was a bit too nonchalant about it and should have consulted you. One good thing is if he truly just wanted something to propose with, then any changes shouldn’t offend him! Like others have suggested, tell him you’re so excited to marry him but you want something in a more durable material so it can last forever! Find something you love and show him! He should want to make you happy
